Baculites vertebralis is a genus of ammonite that lived during the Late Cretaceous. One surprising feature about Baculites is that it resembled Orthocones, a group of cephalopods that lived during the Paleozoic era and also had cone-shaped shells. This is most likely a case of convergent evolution.
