Astrochelys rogerbouri is an extinct relative of the radiated tortoise (A. radiata) that formerly lived in Madagascar until its extinction somewhere before 954 AD.
Discovery and Classification[]
The animal is only known from a single tibia found in Ambolisatra of Madagascar in the 1900s. Despite this fragmentary condition, mitochondrial analysis has shown great divergence from other species, which proved this animal is distinct from members of the same genus.
