Aristonectes was a genus of large plesiosaur, belonging to the family of Elasmosauridae. Aristonectes lived throughout the Late Cretaceous Period in the seas that covered what is now South America and Antarctica. They had a diet consisting predominantly of fish and other small marine creatures. Aristonectes parvidens is probably the most well-known member of the genus, as well as being its type species, meaning that the genus was named after this species. Its name means "small-toothed bravest swimmer".
