Anthracotherium

Anthracotheriidae, members of which known as Anthracotheres, is a family of extinct artiodactyl ungulates from the Eocene to the Pliocene.  This group was the ancestors of hippos. They thrived primarily in Africa and Eurasia, but a few managed to reach North America.  A few common members are Anthracotherium, Elomeryx, Libycosaurus, and Merycopotamus.
