Alickmeron is an extinct genus of lagerpetid that lived during the Late Triassic period in Lower Maleri Formation of India. The type and the only known species is A. maleriensis.
Description[]
Holotype femur of A. maleriensis (Scale = 1 cm).
The fossilzed femur of Alickmeron was originally mixed with the remains of Alwalkeria. It was a around the same size as other lagerpetids.
Discovery and Naming[]
The holotype of Alickmeron was discovered 1974 in outcrops of Lower Maleri beds of Telangana, India. In 1987, Chatterjee had assigned it to Walkeria maleriensis (later Alwalkeria in 1994). In 2016, it has been suggested that the fossils of Alwalkeria are a chimera of pseudosuchian and indeterminate archosaur materials. In 2025, Sen and Ray together describe the femur as a lagerpetid, Alickmeron maleriensis, where the genus name "Alick" is after Alick Walker who discovered it, "meron" is the greek word for femur and the species name "maleriensis" is after Maleri Formation.
Classification[]
Alickmeron is currently classified as a member of Lagerpetidae.
