Akharhynchus (meaning another snout) is an extinct genus of pterosaur that lived in Morocco. The type species is Akharhynchus martilli.
Discovery and Naming[]
The holotype was collected by a commercial fossil dealer from an unknown locality near Tafilat, Morocco. In 2024, Jacobs, Smith, and Zouhir described it as a new species of pterosaur. The generic name combines "akhar" and "rynchus", while the specific name is named after David Martil.
Description[]
It is one of the ten pterosaurs that were discovered in the Kem Kem beds. It is from a fragmented premaxilla. It is challenging to identify sexual dimorphism and some differences due to the material being too fragmented.
Classification[]
It is classified as a member of Tropeognathinae. Its sister taxon is Siroccopteryx.
