Ahvaytum (meaning "long ago") is an extinct genus of basal saurischian, possibly a basal sauropodomorph, that lived in the Late Triassic of Wyoming, United States. The type and the only known species is A. bahndooiveche.
Discovery and Naming[]
The holotype (UWGM 1975) was discovered in Wyoming in 2013. In 2025, It was described as a new genus. The generic name means long ago, and the specific name is "water's young handsome man". The binomial is intended to counteract the colonialism.
Description[]
The specimen consists of a fragmentary hindlimb. It is the oldest known dinosaur from the ancient landmass Laurasia. A partial left femur (UWGM 7549) is also referred to this genus.
Classification[]
It is classified as a member of Saturnaliidae.
Paleoecology[]
It coexisted with temnospondylis, silesaurids, Anaschisma, Parasuchus, and others.
