Last week, I have officially announced that I am, a 1 dev team, creating a simple, low poly, dinosaur vs human shooter. The game will try to take you back into the prime days of shooters, none of that micro transaction stuff, only fun stupid gameplay.
If the project sounds ambitious, it is. However, I am not fantasizing, without having any experience with game development, that is.
I will not release frequent community updates, due to my own responsibilities outside of the internet. However, expect another, more polished, and more interesting, update, in a couple of months, as I will have more free time to work on this thing in the short future.
For now, lets actually look at the future, what exactly can you, and should you expect from this passion project.
Project HDVH2 Expectations:
Polished Gunplay and weapon balancing
I am already looking at tons of videos, articles, and other media formats that are there to lecture small developers, like myself, about how to make guns feel good. The human classes will each have a specific primary and secondary gun, with there being 20 weapons in total. Allowing me to polish and balance each class and weapon, to perfection, hopefully.
2. Good variation, and species spotlight
I will aim to include less known prehistoric reptiles, and other animals, that could likely to be picked by this community too! Currently, I have 8 animals locked in, fully designed abilities wise, but that will change as development progresses. I will try my best to, same as for the weapons, balance these individual species as well as I can, specializing each animal to a different playstyle,
3. Map variation
Each map in this game will be utilized in a different manner. From smaller, close combat focused, mayhem fests, to larger, dinosaur survival game inspired, maps.
4. Gamemodes
There will be 2 launch gamemodes: Team Deathmatch, and a specialized version of control. With another 2 sub gamemodes being added after the public feedback from the first 2, allowing me to focus on making the main modes great, and adding more later on. The 2 sub gamemodes in question will be Dinosaur Team Deathmatch, with a specialized map, and something else I would like to keep secretive for now.
Lastly...
5. Unofficial server support
Since I am a one-person team, the game will launch with unofficial server support. One person will host a server on their device, and other players can join. However, if the game gets popular, with 30 players being my goal for launch, I will implement servers myself. I understand many people might be frustrated by this decision, but for my budget of 15 bucks, and limited amount of free time, I won't be able to risk renting 10 servers on launch. This, as I said, does not mean that there won't changes in the future. I hope you understand :).
Now for something a bit more straight forward...
Development Update 1.0.0
Over the weekend, I have created the character controller basis for testing, nothing too fancy, just walking and jumping. In addition to designing a test map. I hope that this little post has fed you enough information for the time. I can't wait to show you everything else when the time comes.
Oh also, before I forget, expect Sarcosaurus Concept Art later this month! Not drawn by myself since I lack the talent. In addition to its little, venomous dossier, and details for its abilities.
