Since I did Stegosaurid WDYLM Cup, I want to do another WDYLM Cup, but this time with Tyrannosaurids, Tyrannosauroids, and Proceratosaurids.

I never make posts as of late. but today a study released regarding our favorite tyrannosaurine that begins with D. No, not Dynamoterror, the other one. Daspletosaurus!

Well, whats left of it...

In the study by Scherer (link to paper here but much of it is locked), it was found that the three species of Daspletosaurus (and all its undescribed specimens) are of varying relationship to each other. This means that the genus is paraphyletic, and not all species fit under the "Daspletosaurus" umbrella. And there is evidence that the species showed up through anagenesis rather than cladogenesis.

The specifics aren't concrete, but for sure the type species, D. torosus, is essentially at the base of the family tree of Tyrannosaurinae, but not as a direct ancestor to those farther on the tree such as Tarbosaurus, as some did believe. Between them, are the multiple unnamed specimens of varying relationship to each other and the clade.

And D. horneri is housed inside Tyrannosaurini while everyone else isn't.

This is a BIG development, meaning that, in laymans terms, the extra species of Daspletosaurus are gonna have to be renamed eventually. This paper doesn't give any new genus or species names unfortunately, but this should encourage other paleontologists to get to namin'!

Lets ignore the part where in some cladograms they put T. mcraeensis closer to Tarbosaurus than T. rex..... thats a paper for another day lol

So TL;DR: Daspletosaurus is paraphyletic and is no longer considered truly ancestral to other tyrannosaurins. The extra species that aren't D. torosus are gonna need to be renamed to a new genus or something because being paraphyletic isn't gouda. There aren't specifics on where every species will be placed now, but that can be sorted when they get redescribed.

But always remember folks, from the Small Tyrants like Raptorex, to the behemoths like Tyrannosaurus and Tarbosaurus, all tyrannosaurs and tyrannosauroids are among some of the coolest Dino’s ever, and all are awesome creatures.

It was going fine until the color

DISCLAIMER! TAKE THIS NEW STUDY WITH A MASSIVE GRAIN OF SALT! It still needs more review and may not be fully proven yet, so don't take it at face value. Think of the last time Tyrannosaurus got a new species.

But essentially a new study by Sebastian Dalman et al. claim for some older specimens of Tyrannosaurus rex to be a distinct sister species of the guy we all know, as it is closer to the Campanian than it is the Maastrictian. This new species is named T. mcraeensis, and predates T. rex by about 6–7 million years. It is just as big, and shares most of the morphological aspects of the rex.

The existence of this potential new species suggests that tyrannosaurins (rex, Tarbo, and Zhucheng) originated from Southern Laramidia (southwestern US) rather than what is now Asia. This is super important for the idea of how these guys came to be.

I think it's pretty cool, though I still have my doubts. The suggestion of America being the source of Tyrannosaurini is so cool to me, so I wouldn't mind this being true. My only gripe would be the creation of yet another Tyrannosaurus species, which means rex isn't the only one anymore if true.

T-Rex:Why am I hearing boss music?

Giganotosaurus blocks T-Rexes attack with one hand(Hand?)and pushes it back,Giga now has an extreme adrenaline boost and now T-Rex knows it’s in trouble,Giga gracefully dodges T-Rexes attacks and attacks back,it then goes in for the final attack.

Giga jumps 50 feet in the air and lands on T-Rex,T-Rexes ribs break and it’s very close to death,finally Giga uses all of its strength to bite diwn on T-Rexes neck and it breaks the earth,Giga falls over but after a bit,gets back up.T-Rex has lost,Team Carnosaur wins
