Praetoriacanthosaurus imperitorus (emperor's praetorian guard spined lizard).
Description:
Praetoriacanthosaurus imperitorus is a species of giant Tyrannosaurid dinosaur that was found in New Zealand in 2009 and would have lived during the late Cretaceous Era. It is the second largest Tyrannosaurid after Tyrannosaurus itself being larger than Tarbosaurus it is around 6 to 8 tonnes making it the second largest Tyrannosaurid to exist. It was more unique than other Tyrannosaurids. The Praetoriacanthosaurus has a low ridge on its back and small osteoderms on top of its head that makes it look like it has some kind of crown like an emperor which gives it its name, Praetoriacanthosaurus imperitorus, emperor's praetorian guard spined lizard named after the imperial unit known as the Praetorian Guard who served as the personal bodyguards to the emperors (you could also say that it's also named after the Praetorian Guards from Star Wars). The spine that sits atop the Tyrannosaurid's back was heavily debated (like what most scientists would do if a dinosaur had a strange sail on its back) whether it was used as a mating display or heat regulation, or communication but there was one thing that scientists debated on and that was its "crown" that sits on top of the Praetoriacanthosaurus' head. One theory did come to mind about this and that was that it would have been used for display to potential mates if the spine wasn't used for mating but one plausible theory about its "crown" is that it would have been used for ramming battles as the spikes on its head protected their brain so they would have used their "crown" to do ramming battles without causing their brain to be damaged when battling with its species. Scientists even once tested its bite power and when it was conducted, it turns out the bite force was as powerful if not slightly more powerful than Tyrannosaurus. This dinosaur would have coexisted with the Taniwhasaurus as fossil evidence showed a Taniwhasaurus and Praetoriacanthosaurus battling with each other, likely either for food as there was one juvenile Taniwhasaurus near the 2 where the creatures were competing which also indicated that the Taniwhasaurus battling with the Tyrannosaurid was a female and was trying to protect her child from the Praetoriacanthosaurus but since the Praetoriacanthosaurus and Taniwhasaurus and the child were found buried, it indicated that it ended with all 3 of them dead. Praetoriacanthosaurus would have been one of the most dangerous dinosaurs of its time and the apex predator of its land and would have competed with Taniwhasaurus if given the chance.
