Champ's Lake mainly focuses on the Lake Champlain Plesiosaurus, otherwise known as Champ, however, in the story, like my other cryptids, he has a rival. But this one isn't a cryptid.
Barb is a Nothosaurus Profuntorum which translates to "False Lizard Depth Hunter". She is 10 foot tall, 38 feet long, and weighs about 2 tons. The reason why she was given this kind of species name is because her kind are far more adapted to the water than their ancestors. With them diving to depths that most semiaquatic animals aren't able to reach, and they can hold their breath for an astonishing six hours.
Unlike her Triassic counterparts, Barb has a slightly longer snout, a bulkier body, four legs with webbed feet, plates on her back, and a paddle tail. She has a row of stripes running down her back, multiple stripes on her legs, and triangle shaped stripes on her tail along with circles. She also has a shock collar on his neck and has veins popping out as a result of stress, she also has a disturbed expression. At the moment, I don't have a planned color scheme for her yet.
Unlike most of the animals in these stories, Barb is not based on any particular cryptid, rather, she is my own original character made for the story.
Barb used to live in Lake Superior, and she didn't have an issue when it came to hiding because she was quite fast compared to her ancestors, so she would often bolt away the moment she engulfed some air. She only ever pokes her nose out of the water and not her entire head, leading to some people just writing her off as nothing more than a crocodile or an alligator.
Barb didn't really have any competition in Lake Superior, because unlike most lakes that held previously thought extinct wildlife, there was no other kind of prehistoric life in the lake apart from other members of her kind. At some point, Barb would meet up with a male of her species and would breed with him. All was going well for her, she and her mate decided to nest on a small island where humans didn't go to too often. They built their nest safely while fending off any mammals that tried to eat their eggs.
Unfortunately for Barb, things would end badly for her. Because little did she know, this island wasn't as untouched as she once thought.
In November of 2019, man who was out exploring the island managed to catch a glimpse of her mate pulling a muskellunge out of the water and decided to trail him. Once the man approached the nest, he started to record his findings on a camera as he watched Barb feast on the musky. After the man left the island, he alerted the authorities about this. At first they didn't believe him, that was until he showed them the footage.
It went on the news and garnered lots of attention, but the ones who were the most interested in the Nothosaurus family, didn't have the best of intentions.
An organization known as Seal, which was a subgroup of a larger company known as Dunamis Incorporated, infiltrated Lake Superior in order to find Barb and her mate.
When they found them, the two Nothosaurus fiercely fought to protect their nest, Barb's mate even killed two of the men that were tasked with hunting them down, but unfortunately, her mate would meet a tragic end at the hands of a bullet that was shot through his head. This enraged Barb who charged for the Seal troops, however, they needed Barb alive for research purposes, so they tranquilized her. They soon took her and her mate's corpse for research, along with the two eggs inside of the nest.
When Barb woke up, she was being held in a facility, with her eggs close by, being studied by scientists. Barb would try to attack the scientists by lunging at them, but then, a shock was sent throughout her entire body. A shock collar had been placed onto her, however, the voltage wasn't enough to kill her, but it was enough to make her do whatever Seal wanted.
Seal threatened to destroy Barb's eggs, despite her being an animal, she understood that if she doesn't meet their demands, they'll kill her unborn children. But she only understood that after several more shocks because the next time she tried to attack, they pointed a gun at her eggs. With her seeing guns as a danger because they're the reason why her mate was killed, she forced herself to bend to their rule.
Seal used Barb as a weapon, that's all they really wanted from her. They found out from Dunamis Incorporated that animals like these can be told to do their bidding if they forced their will upon them. They found this out when the CEO of Dunamis Incorporated, Kasim Shaw told them that he found an island filled with animals like Barb, but they were different, they weren't just limited to a lake.
The whole island was filled with them.
Shaw demonstrated this by sending a video to them of him ordering an animal known as a Torvosaurus Improsequor, a medium sized predatory dinosaur. But the only reason he had control of it was because Shaw trained it from birth to be a weapon.
Barb would be put up against animals such as crocodilians, bears, sharks, and anything that was close to her size, to see if Seal could use her as a weapon, and if she's useful enough, they'll send her to Dunamis Incorporated for Shaw to use.
Little did Barb know, her children already hatched out of the egg, but they were being kept in a separate holding chamber. For months, Barb was forced to do Seal's dirty work such as getting rid of people from rival companies by ambushing them after Seal lured them to a trap, either that, or they used her to hunt down traitors. And every time she opposed them, they would shock her.
In 2021, after being informed that there was a possible prehistoric animal in Lake Champlain, Seal decided to bring Barb to the lake to see how useful she really was, putting her up against something that was like her.
And that something was Champ the Plesiosaurus, Lake Champlain's apex predator.
They first sent Barb out to fight Champ during the night, after they followed a group of teenagers who were trying to find Champ after recent reports started popping up, saying that Champ was responsible for the recent killings happening around the lake.
Champ emerged from the darkness and attacked the ship that the teens were on. At the same time, Barb was sent to fight him. The two fought fiercely in the gloomy night water, with Champ using his long neck like how a constrictor snake would use it's body, Champ used his neck in an attempt to suffocate Barb, but the ferocious False Lizard fought back by clawing Champ, almost taking out his left eye. After a while, Barb was called back when a signal was sent to her shock collar. Her shock collar would glow different colors whenever an order was sent to her, and over the months, she would learn what they meant after Seal put her through some training. It flashed yellow which meant she had to retreat.
Later, the teens, led by a boy named Jay Curry, found out what Seal was doing to Barb and they also found out about her children. This sent them on a race against time to find a way to free Barb before Seal made her fight Champ again.
Unfortunately for Jay, he would soon find out that his family had a twisted tradition that he didn't know about. The reason why Champ was the only Plesiosaurus in Lake Champlain was because his ancestors, including his parents, killed the rest, leaving Champ as the last survivor. So Jay was conflicted on whether or not he should let Champ live, or let Barb fight him in order to have him die. But his parents encouraged him to kill Champ himself because they viewed him as a demon.
Champ and Barb's second and final duel would take place during the day. This time, the whole town was present to watch the battle after they saw the commotion and were shocked to find out that not only was Champ real, but he was fighting a creature that was like him.
Some of Jay's friends snuck over to where the Seal troops were. Because they were near a shoreline and they had Barb's children with them just in case if the shock collar stops working. The team slowly devised a plan to free the younglings and Barb from Seal's tyranny.
Meanwhile in the depths of the lake, Champ and Barb brawled once more, with Champ taking on a more aggressive approach. But Barb just kept hitting back because after being tortured for months, she came to the realization that if she ends up dying, who will Seal use instead? Her children.
She may not know that they've hatched already, but considering what they did to her, she knew they'd do the same to her kids once they grew up, which is why she put more effort into fighting Champ. The Plesiosaurus almost pushed Barb into a specific hole in the lake, however, what was in said hole was already disturbed because of the amount of blood in the water.
A swarm of lamprey swam out. Because Champ despised these vampire fish, he slaughtered many of them and focused on getting himself away instead of trying to fight Barb. Once the two of them were away from the lamprey, they continued their duel.
Meanwhile, the teens, and some of their parents, managed to get past the troops by beating them and knocking them out. One of the children's parents even put on one of the troops' uniforms to fool the rest of Seal. One of the parents, who was a police officer, alerted the rest of the police force about Seal's illegal operation and told them where they were.
However, they were soon exposed by the Seal troops which resulted in the parents using the guns they got from the Seal troops they knocked out. They didn't kill anyone, but they didn't leave anyone unharmed either. While the parents distracted the troops, the teens went to free Barb's young.
Once the young were free, the leader of Seal itself tried to kill one of the girls in the group, but then, the girl charged at the leader because not only because the were Seal's leader, but they also held the remote for Barb's shock collar.
The more Champ and Barb fought, the more Barb wanted to leave. She never wanted to fight anyone. She wanted to go home, she wanted to be with her children and raise them to be strong like their late father. It's why, during the final segment of the fight, Barb tried to escape Lake Champlain, not caring about whether or not Seal would shock her again. All she needed was to see her children in the hopes that she would be able to take them back to Lake Superior somehow.
But Champ wasn't an easy opponent to shake off.
Eventually, Champ brought their conflict from the lake, to the land. Evolved Plesiosaurus like Champ can stay out of the water for hours on end, which is why he had no problem fighting Barb on a beach even though she was the one who had legs and was better adapted for land.
After a while, the police came to confront Seal and their leader, and with that, the girl who fought the leader broke the remote that controlled the shock collar. When she did this, the collar shut down, and it unlocked itself and fell off of Barb's neck.
Soon after, Barb's children ran to her, recognizing her as their mother despite not meeting her beforehand. Barb hid them behind her as she roared at Champ to leave. Though Champ was a ferocious fighter, the moment the collar came off, he quickly noticed that Barb didn't want to fight anymore as she kept backing away. It was here where Champ realized what he was really doing.
He was attacking a mother who's only motive was to protect her young, like how any good mother should. Champ may be a carnivore, but he wasn't heartless. Both of them were intelligent enough to where he could tell she didn't want to fight anymore.
Champ left afterwards, he confronted Jay one last time on his parents' ship. The boy was tempted to shoot Champ with a spear turret, but he froze, and moved his hands away from the turret. He accepted that just because his family has been killing Champ's kind for years, it doesn't mean he has to as well. He didn't want this wretched history to consume his future, so he let Champ go.
Barb and her children were soon captured again, but this time, they weren't going to be put into a facility.
They were captured in order to transport them back to where they belonged. After interrogating the members of Seal, they found out where Barb's home was and they sent her and her kids back to Lake Superior. But they also brought something else with them.
The bones of Barb's mate were buried underneath the island that Barb and her mate used to live in. They thought that it was best that he was buried here because if he was, in some way, at least he'll still stay close to his mate because Barb didn't leave that island to find another one. She stayed there because she missed her mate. Barb was now protected by the law and any hunters that attempted to kill or hunt her would get shot down. Not because the government wanted to be cruel, but because they didn't want Barb to suffer any more than she already has. Which is why they killed any hunter who attempted to hunt her to send a message, any hunter who goes out to hunt her down, will not come back from it, and not because of Barb herself.
Also, beside Barb is one of my favorite prehistoric animals, Helicoprion! It doesn't appear in the story, there was just a lot of extra space on the paper so I thought I could squeeze in an extra drawing in there.
Trivia:
• Barb was named after her teeth, because they stick out like barbs.
• Originally, a male Prognathodon named "Razor" would have been Champ's rival, either that, or a Crocodile named "Reaper". I didn't go with Razor because I thought that a Mosasaur would be too much for a Plesiosaurus to handle, and I didn't go for a crocodile because that would be too bland.
• The name "Seal" was inspired by the name of the shady organization known as "SEELE" from the Evangelion franchise.
• If you didn't know, this story is connected to my other series, Sauria Island. And if you know anything about that series, you'd know that Seal being a subgroup of Dunamis Incorporated is an example of world building. Because Dunamis is the evil corporation that acts as the main antagonists of the Sauria Island series, in terms of the human side of the story. And if you've read my posts about Sauria Island, you'd know that Kasim Shaw, the CEO, would die after being electrocuted. And the Torvosaurus is Quake, one of the main dinosaur antagonists.
• Barb is the one of only the animal antagonists in the cryptid stories so far who ends up surviving. Kronag the Kronosaurus from Nessie's Loch dies while Nessie holds him still, giving the main protagonist, Jonathane Richards, a chance to blow out his brain with a rifle. And Alkai the Temnodontosaurus from Crown of Teeth gets decapitated by Basil the Mosasaurus. Although, to be fair, both Basil and Alkai are antagonists, it's just that Basil is the one who managed to make it through to the end.

Friend Ping:
Nessie's Loch is a story about a trio investigating Loch Ness after a mysterious attack which leads to the discovery of a tooth from an unknown animal.
This was my first drawing of Nessie, but it only ever showed her from the neck up in a pose very similar to the Surgeon's Photograph that she's so known for. I was dreading making a full body version because of the long neck and because at the time, I wasn't good at making aquatic reptiles. But now that I've gotten more practice, it's time to use those skills to good use.
Nessie's head was modified a little, she still has the sail, stripes, and dots on her body, the sail extends just before the tail fin. The tail fin has may dots covering it, and the front flippers have sharp edges, Plesiosaurus Elapucustos (Near-to-lizard Evading Guardian) uses these to attack opponents and slash them. They also have dots and stripes on their fins.
Kronag the Kronosaurus Invalecythus (Kronos Lizard Invading Cruiser) is the main antagonist of the story and he's the one that the mysterious tooth belongs to. He's gone through two iterations that I will show here.
First, we have a simple shot of his head, then, a drawing featuring half of his body. Whilst I am pretty proud of both, I felt like something was lacking about Kronag. Considering how stylized Nessie was, shouldn't I give her nemesis the same treatment?
Kronag has been given a complete makeover. He still has his blind eye with the scar, the scar on his neck, and the bite mark on his left front flipper caused by Nessie's father, Archibalt, but the rest of his design has been remade. His head, which previously looked like a normal Kronosaurus head, has been modified. You see, when I wrote a scene where Kronag attacks a fishing crew, I mentioned that he had a crocodilian like snout, it's why I decided to change what his snout looked like, to give him more character. But his exposed teeth are still visable. He has two types of spikes, one is bigger than the other and they run down his back and on his brow. He has a tail fin and many types of stripes. He has wavy stripes on his back, and sharp stripes on his tail fin and flippers. And like before, he's bulkier than a real Kronosaurus.

Champ's Lake is another spinoff of the Sauria Island series that focuses on the beast of Lake Champlain. It is about a boy named Jay Curry who has always feared the lake ever since he was a child. However, a horrible accident causes the lake to be closed down until further notice. But Jay gets persuaded by his friends into joining them on a mission to uncover what exactly caused that accident. Little do they know, there is another group searching for the monster, however, their reason for hunting him down does not align with Jay's group.
The poster here shows the design I picked for Champ. And yeah, I already mentioned this before, Champ wasn't going to look like a recolored Nessie. Though he has a sail just like my Nessie design, he has a sharper head and has horns on the back of his head. If you're wondering why he has them, many Plesiosaurus cryptids are often portrayed with horns sticking out from the back of their heads. I simply modernized hat idea. Champ's patterns include stripes and dots. His patterns were inspired by anacondas. His man color is a swampy green, his underbelly is a faded, sandy yellow, his stripes and dots are black, and he has dark grey eyes, and his sail is also black. And while it isn't visible here, he has a star shaped mark on his head which Champ in real life is said to have.
Also, Champ is a different species compared to Nessie. Nessie in this universe is called a Plesiosaurus Elapucustos, but Champ is not the same species as Nessie. Champ is known as a Plesiosaurus Palladraconis, which translates to "Near Lizard Cloaked Dragon". The "cloaked" part refers to how his skin color helps him hide in the depths of the lake.
Unlike Nessie, Champ doesn't stay in the lake too often. There are secret passage ways he goes through that lead into other lakes and he often migrates during winter. But during summer, he does return to Lake Champlain since it's where he was born. One thing he has in common with Nessie is that he lives in caves with air pockets in them to refuel his air.
Champ, despite being a Plesiosaurus, is not docile like Nessie. Champ doesn't just kill humans because he's hungry, he genuinely hates them. The reason why is because Jay's family is hiding a secret from him, in that the reason why Champ is the only Plesiosaurus in the lake is because Jay's family hunted down the others throughout the decades. Which is why Champ attacks humans the moment he returns to Lake Champlain which causes the lake to be closed down.
At 45 feet long and 14 feet tall, he's actually bigger than Nessie, but only because he's a few years older than her and his species adapted to grow larger than Plesiosaurus Elapucustos.
Even though he's very aggressive, Champ is not malicious like Nessie's nemesis, Kronag the Kronosaurus. In fact, he actually wants to keep the balance of the lake intact by killing humans so they would stop overfishing. Because if they take too much fish, he won't have anything to feed on apart from humans. Champ also dislikes a very certain part of the lake, a medium sized hole deep in the lake. The reason why he hates it is because there is a swarm of lamprey that lunge at anything that comes within reach, which is why he avoids that area because while he's not afraid of lamprey, they are still difficult to deal with and he'd rather not interact with hundreds of vampiric demons.
If you're wondering what that black mass is next to Champ on the poster, it's simple. If you search up Champ on the web, you'll quickly see the most iconic photo of him, which is of Champ looking off into the distance. But as the years went by, many experts have concluded that this was most likely just a piece of wood. Which is why I wanted to include it here and it's also the reason for why the tagline is what it is.
It asks the question of "Do you see what you really see?" because while that piece of wood is very convincing, that's not what this beast is, so I thought it'd be neat to put it in front of the real Champ to symbolize how people don't really know what they're looking for until they come face to face with it.
Champ preys on many animals, but the one thing he eats the most are pikes, specifically the older ones because they're the bigger ones. And like Nessie, he can also crawl on land but he barely ever resorts to doing so.
Despite his large size and commanding presence, Champ is actually fairly young with it comes to his kind. He's only 28 years old, so the beasts that inspired the legends surrounding him weren't actually Champ himself, but his relatives who lived before him.
Also, here's a piece of trivia. Brandon Curry, one of the main protagonists of Nessie's Loch is related to Jay in this story. They're actually cousins, so yeah, there's more of a connection to Nessie's Loch than one might think of at first glance. Plus, I plan for Nessie to meet Champ in a future story called The Loch and The Lake so it was inevitable that I'd have something to connect both of the stories.
So, what do you think?
Friend Ping:
It's been a long time coming. After many months of planning, I will finally show you what the titular character of Nessie's Loch looks like.
Ah yes, the Queen of Loch Ness, the world's champion at hide and seek, Nessie, the Plesiosaurus Elapucustos!
She has a very long neck as expected, a thin snout, a slight brow, overlapping teeth, stripes and dots on her back, and her most prominent feature, a sail that starts from her head to her back. She is 38 feet long 12 feet tall, and weighs about 5 tons. However, Nessie is not fully grown, so it's possible that she may grow even larger. Her species name translates to "Near to Lizard Evading Guardian" which refers to how she may hide most of the time, but when humans are in danger, for some reason, she willingly protects them. Also, her patterns were modeled after sea snakes.
Plesiosaurus Elapucustos came to Loch Ness during the Cenozoic era. For those of you who don't know, this is connected to my Sauria Island series which is why Plesiosaurus is still alive in modern day. Ever since then, they've began to make the waters of Scotland their home, inspiring many legends that have been building up over the years.
Nessie mainly hunts catfish, Great Loch Eels, and really, anything that can fit in her mouth, but the one thing she fears is Kronag, a one eyed Kronosaurus who is the natural predator of her species.
She is part of a family of four which includes Nessie herself, her father, Archibalt, her mother, Hart, and her sister, Lizzie. However, her family was chased out of The Loch while they were hunting. Kronag fought
Archibalt and though he lost, Archie took out one of Kronag's eyes. Their current location is unknown. Kronag is also the reason why Nessie never hunts at night, due to him being a nocturnal predator who mainly hunts during the night where humans can't see spot him.
Despite her imposing appearance and the stories surrounding her, Nessie is far kinder than people believe. This is mainly due to the fact that she doesn't like the taste of human flesh which is why she is friendly towards them.
She is extremely intelligent, able to discern whether or not someone intends to threaten her, and unlike her Cretaceous counterparts, Nessie has adaptations that make her species far superior.
Her body is more flexible, allowing her to make swift and smooth maneuvers, and her neck isn't as stiff so it'll be easier for her to catch prey. And she can also spend an extended amount of time on land and can move on land like a seal. And she is also faster than her Cretaceous counterparts, fast enough to jump out of the water at full speed.
Nessie's Grotto is an underwater cave with an air pocket inside. There are many skeletons in said cave, most of which belong to her prey, but some are actually remains of her species who also used to live in this cave before they died of old age. She also uses this cave as a source of oxygen so she won't have to resort to swimming to The Loch's surface for air. And usually, she sleeps on land in her cave, this is to insure that if Kronag somehow managed to get into the cave, he won't be able to reach her.
Nessie communicates through calls that are similar to whale calls but are much more ominous and unnerving. She does on occasion, roar when she's in an aggressive state.
Nessie uses her jaws as her main weapons, but her front flippers also have spikes at the front which she uses to slash prey. The main different between the females and males of the species is that makes have smaller sails than the females and they have a more rounded snout.
She mainly hunts in the depths where most of her prey lives. Although, she does occasionally come to the surface during the rain since the rain helps in masking her silhouette.

Welcome back to looking at more Dino Dan creatures. Today we are moving on to all the new creatures introduced in Trek’s Adventures. Basically I’m looking at the design and any other information the show gives and amazing how accurate/inaccurate it is, followed by personal notes on the design itself.
Positives = Accuracies
IDK = Can’t find or tell weather that’s accurate/possible or not
Negatives = Inaccuracies
Alberto is fine design, but I don’t like the eyes and how it looks angry all the time. Also the shrinking wrapped skull and weird neck posture feels worse on the here than on the OG Rex.
Major improvement, I like the new skull shape a lot. But with that said now the colors look much too bright, the darker shades of blue were better. This deisgn with the old colors would be perfect
The colors look cool and the tail fans’ nice, but just like the original Dromaeo, he’s got a terrible feather cut. The skull shape is kinda bad too.
This looks much better, nice thin skull shape and a kinda cool feather crest. It’s a shame about the face and arms tho.
This Amargasaurus design is whack. Why is it so big and what’s with the proportions?! Also, while I prefer the spiked look for Amarga, I’d take any accurate neck sails over these weird Spino fins. With that said, I can’t deny the colors are beautiful (on the male, the female’s fine). Like the original Tricera, the color barley save it, but to a slightly higher degree
This Giga has really cool gray colors (would love to see this design in the shape of the RJ Palmer one), but the proportions are just wack. The arms come off as particularly goofy, since they’re way too small with hands much too big. Also, the ischium and pelvis thing I pointed out feels wrong. Head is alright though. If the proportions were better, this could have been really cool.
I’m not sure how I feel about the Micro. The colors, while outdated, look nice. Ignoring how skinny it is, the proportions look nice. The face is a mixed bag, but it’s a bit tolerable every now and then.
The face is better, but the crest looks silly and dumb. The body is honestly a bit of a downgrade, maybe because of the wings, colors, legs and chest. And it still baffles me that as late as the movie, they STILL avoid giving the dinosaurs proper wings!
Pterodaustro has a great face and actually looks really pretty with the red color and blue patterning. Quite a unique choice of creature too.
Draco has a really nice combo of green white and purple. Ignoring face being off a bit and the side spikes, pretty good design
I adore the coloration of Kosmo, blue with white and purple works so well! The face and shape are spot on as well. With that said, I don’t understand nor appreciate the rocky skin and osteoderms. But I can overlook that, one of my favorite herbivore designs from this show.
Why is Theri so small?! Also, the face looks kinda unappealing, especially how it doesn’t have feathers on the face. That and the back is weird. The rest of it is fine, the colors on the male looks pretty cool, with the white base and red spots (like Amarga, the female is just fine). Overall, kinda bad, I much prefer even Dominion Theri over it.
Psittacosaurus looks good. The brown and white stripes with hints of yellow go well together. I also find it neat how I can actually tell what species it is based on the skull. I’m also kinda upset it couldn’t use the quills for defense IRL. Also the body is a bit off
I’m doing the “Meteorite Survivors” trio cause well, I did do the Triassic Lizard boi, this is fair game too. That and unlike the one-off creatures from “Tyrannosaurus Trek” and “Quetza Grandma”, these aren’t so overly-cartoony to the point of being fruitless to cover.
I do like the colors, but I don’t really care for Tuatara. My absolute least favorite extinct animals are the ones that are too similar to modern stuff, because they’re often not unique enough, so not-lizard boi over here gets no praise from me.
What the hell is that?! It looked like a 10 yr old edgelord tried designing a shark. The fins look stupid and the face isn’t much better. Colors are neat I guess. So yeah, really bad design.
While this design doesn’t fit a Createous bird, the colors are really pretty and it’s unironically a better design for Archeopteryx than the one Dino Dana gave us.
The proportions for Deino aren’t nearly as bad as the Giga, and it’s kinda cool, mainly cause it’s a big crocodile. The tealish-green and reddish purple are another really good color scheme.
Archelon is also fine. The blue colors and orange shell looks pretty good here. The pointed shell is such a weird choice to me (tho looks a little cool) and the alt. isn’t much better. The flippers are also kinda bad.
Plesiosaurus is also decent, I like the green and orange patterning but its pretty un-notable beyond that
Like Kosmo, Futa has a beautiful green and blue color scheme with red highlights. I also don’t mind the shape, despite being inaccurate. The lips not closing is a red flag tho.
I honestly take more offense to the overly rough face of Ozraptor than the over-feathering. The colors are neat, but the design becomes kinda bad once you realize what Ozraptor is meant to be (small abelisaurid).
Also I find it weird how Futa and Ozzie were were introduced in Trek’s Adventures but only appeared once until Dino Dana
This color scheme would look beautiful on an accurate Utahraptor, but the face, arms and toe claws are a new level of “WTF that’s so wrong”.
This one is just disappointing, given how the toy and website version actually had feathers. Colors are still nice I guess, despite those also being a downgrade.
Updated notes (updates in highlights):
Thank you to @ScaryLookinHobo for pointing out some of these out to me.
This one was more of a grammar error, (original just said “shrink”)
Realized/forgot to mention the Stygi’s pronated arms
Can dinosaurs shiver?
I think I was wrong about Compy having 2 fingers
I didn’t notice the wrong fingers on Quetz before
Forgot to mention eppcopitals
The Stego plate placement looked off initially but I think mainly just a body shape and plate shape that threw me off.
Anyways thanks for reading, hope you enjoyed and goodbye.

A twenty seven year old woman was in her room studying something. She had long, dark brown hair, bronze colored eyes, and bright skin. She wore a black off the shoulder dress that had brown accents and a long brown skirt. She also had green apple hair clips and dark blue shoes.
The woman stared at a book on her desk. She had multiple pictures and news articles strapped on her wall. Some of them feature pictures such as the Surgeon's Photo, the Loch Ness Gargoyle, the Loch Ness Flipper, and
sightings as recent as 2018. All of these were in some way related to Loch Ness' local legend.
"You really were something else, papa. Don't worry, your secret's safe with me." The woman smiled as she looked at a photo of her father.
This was Emily Smith, Fergus' daughter and only child. Ever since her father died, she has tried her best to study his work as much as possible to learn everything he documented about Nessie. The main problem she's encountered so far is trying to find a way to get to the cave Nessie was in. She couldn't find anyone in the town who would agree to go with her because they thought it would be pointless.
She looked out of a window. Her house was very close to the Loch so she had a good view of it. She sighed and placed a hand on her chin.
"Where are ya, Nessie girl?" Emily said to herself.
Though she hasn't made that much progress, she has at least tried to lure Nessie out using bait but nothing has happened. Along with that, the people in the towns near the Loch have started to realize that the Surgeon's Photo which made Nessie popular was a fake and because of it, a lot of people have given up on trying to find her because to them, she was just a fad that lasted for too long.
On her wall were also some theories that she had. Some of the papers had sketches of portals, one of her theories was that Nessie was a Plesiosaurus from the Mesozoic who managed to travel to modern day through some kind of portal created by crystals. But she's not even sure if she should believe her own theory because her father never mentioned anything about a special kind of crystal inside of Nessie's cave.
A knock on her door was heard as another woman came in. She had faded blonde hair, dark green eyes, and wore a sleeveless shirt and black pants. This was Emily's mother and Fergus' wife, Meredith Smith.
"Dinner is ready." Meredith announced.
"In a minute." Emily replied.
Meredith sighed and walked over to her daughter. She saw the many papers on her wall and the journal that was sitting on her desk. She didn't want to, but she had to do something about this since it's not the first time she's seen her daughter's room like this.
"Em... When are you going to give this up?" Meredith asked.
Emily looked at her mother in disbelief.
"So you want me to let my papa's work go to waste? No thanks." Emily retorted.
"I'm serious Em. You're twenty seven and you don't have a bloody boyfriend yet, and you know why that is? It's because of this. People think you're crazy." Though Meredith had every intention to say that last part, she regretted saying it because she knows her daughter would be hurt.
Emily scoffed.
"Crazy? So, you think papa was crazy too?" Emily glared at her mother.
Meredith was taken aback by this. She didn't know what else to say and just kept staring at her daughter. But she was a woman who knew how to control her emotions, she'd never snap at Emily. That would put their relationship in jeopardy and apart from Annabelle who is Emily's aunt, they're the only family they have left.
"I'm not saying that. I loved your father, I would never replace him. All I want is for you to be happy too. I want you to have your own life, your own job. You don't have to stay cooped in this room for your whole life. It's all you've been doing ever since you finished college." Meredith explained.
"So apparently me working at the library down the street isn't a job?" Emily questioned.
"I mean a job that pays really good. Em, listen. If your papa was here, he'd want the same." Meredith replied.
"You know darn well what he wanted for me. Remember what he told me right before he died? He told me to believe. And if I have to be a crazy girl then so be it." Emily said, sternly.
Meredith wasn't liking where this was going. She crossed her arms in a disapproving manner and walked back to the door.
"I don't like the language you're using, young lady." Meredith responded.
"Yeah, sure. You say you love papa yet you don't care about his work. I bet if it wasn't for me you would've thrown out his research." Emily argued.
"This talk is over. Come down if you're hungry." Meredith finished.
A few seconds after her mother left, Emily put a hand on her head. Why did she act like that? That's not just anybody she was talking to, it was her own mother. If Fergus were here, he'd hate to see them fighting.
Out on the Loch, in the dead of night, was a lone fishing boat that was sitting on the water as the waves were swaying it from side to side. The crew started tossing out nets as they sank to the bottom. Most of the crew monitored the nets while the captain sonar for anything that might be in the area they were in.
The captain tapped his hands on the steering wheel. Despite the darkness, it was actually relaxing out here at night. The water was calmer than usual and there were no other ships they had to contend with.
"You sure this is a good idea, mate?" One of the crew members asked a colleague of theirs.
"Look, from what we've heard, these eels have been seen coming out during the night. If we catch one of them, we'll earn a ton. Plus, we'll contribute to the scientific community too." His colleague answered.
"Don't those scientists already know a lot about these eels?" The man asked.
"Not everything." His colleague replied.
The top of the ship featured a light that would be used to see if there were any Great Loch Eels nearby. However, midway through their hunt, they turned it off. These things hunt in almost complete darkness. A light in the middle of the night is just going to make them want avoid the nets.
"Dun dun..." One of the crew members started to mimic the sound of the iconic Jaws theme.
"Don't." Another crew member chuckled.
"Dun dun, dun dun..." The crew member kept teasing.
"Mate, you ever take anything seriously?" The other crew member asked.
"Unless it's my kids, nah." Their friend answered.
They're just lucky the creature they're looking for isn't an oversized great white with an appetite for humans. Catching a Great Loch Eel would arguably be easier than dealing with the shark from that film.
The captain looked at the sonar as he was humming a tune. Suddenly, the sonar showed a silhouette of something. It was hard to identify but there was something of considerable size near the ship.
"Boys, get ready. Something's headed for us." The captain called out.
"Gonna need a bigger boat for this, chief." One of the crew members snickered.
"You really love that movie, don't you?" Another crew member asked.
"It's the only good shark movie I've seen, so yeah." The crew member replied.
The water was no longer as calm as it had been. There were ripples beginning to form. One of the crew members thought they caught a glimpse of something breaching the surface, but when they pointed to where they saw it, nothing was there.
Something was definitely entering the area in which they were at. Whether it be one of those eels, they were about to find out.
All of the nets that were thrown were connected to a cable that had a switch at the back of the ship. If it is turned on, the cables will pull in the nets and whatever is inside of them.
A small tug was felt on one of the nets. But the movement was rapidly increasing to the point that the ship's sonar was starting to show a better image of the creature. And it was nearly as big as the ship.
"We've got one, boss." A crew member called out.
"Pull it in, boys!" The captained ordered as they activated the switch.
The cables were attached to a mechanism that looked like what a tow truck would use to store it's tow cable. They were quickly pulling in the nets as the water began to become rougher and waves began to form.
When the nets were at the surface, the crew saw something shaking on the surface of the Loch. Splashing water in every which way. They couldn't see it clearly since all they could see was it's back, but it wasn't one of the eels.
"Boss, this ain't what we're looking for." A crew member said.
"What is it, then?" The captain questioned.
"I don't know. But it looks big, really big." The crew member said back.
It wasn't as slithery as the eels. It's body was more bulky, and it looked more like the body of some kind of turtle instead of the snake like body of an eel.
However, this animal was no turtle. A turtle wouldn't have the violent or malevolent nature to do what this thing would do next.
Just as they were about to get a better look, the creature started moving away from the ship. The mechanisms were straining because it was trying to pull the creature in but it was going in the opposite direction.
"He's fighting, cap! He's fighting!" A crew member shouted.
The captain started driving the ship forwards. If this thing wants to fight, it's going to get one.
It was like the ship and the creature were in a tug of war, and neither side was winning because both were going in two different directions.
One of the crew members noticed that the mechanisms that was pulling in the nets was beginning to bend. It shouldn't do that. Whatever this thing was, it's clear that it it's quite powerful if it's able to fight with a boat like this.
Suddenly, the cable snapped and whipped a crew member. He fell into the water soon after and the net was taken down as well and the ship was rocked.
The ship swayed violently as the rest of the crew tried to find where the man who got whipped was. He didn't surface after he got hit. It must mean that the cable knocked him out, or worse, it might have killed him.
"Report!" The captain yelled.
"Marc's down, cap. We can't seem him." A crew member said referring to the man who was whipped into the water.
"Damn." The captain growled. He may have been a man that screamed business, but he cared about his crew. Losing a man like this left a bad taste in his mouth.
"What now?" Another man asked.
"We're going home. That couldn't have been an eel. It's way too strong." The captain said as he drove the ship away.
As the ship was on its way back to one of the docking ports, the crew felt something. The ship would randomly move up for no reason. The waves weren't even that high. But what was doing this was no mere wave.
The crew members looked down into the dark Loch to see any hint that would reveal their attacker. It's clear to them that this beast wasn't done with them yet.
It's messing with them. Tugging at their ship, making them feel nervous. The port was still far away, the place they went to was far from any docking port so it was the perfect opportunity for this creature to attack.
And just when they thought it couldn't get any worse, the crew members heard a loud splash behind the ship. A loud roar came through as the beast leaped into the air and slammed itself onto the back of the ship.
The crew tried to climb to where the captain was because he was at the top of the ship which would allow them to evade the beast for a while.
As they climbed, the beast's jaws snapped at them. They finally got some semblance of a good look on it. It was very bulky, and it had a snout that resembled a crocodile. And from what they could see, it only had one eye that worked, the other one looked as though something scarred it.
The creature's weight was making the boat turn up, which was a bad thing for the crew members who were climbing the ship. Because not only will they be dangling on the side of the ship, if they fall, will go straight into that thing's mouth.
After a while, the creature slipped off of the ship as the the boat tipped over, sending the crew and the captain plummeting into the Loch. Right before that happened, the captain managed to jump off the ship.
The captain rose from the water and held onto the underside of the ship which was now floating along the Loch's surface. He kept coughing as he tried to think of some way to get away from that monster.
But is there a way to get away from it?
It just got done overturning the ship and presumedly killed a majority of the crew. There's no getting away from something like that. Especially in the middle of the Loch where nobody was around.
As the captain's vision was beginning to blur, he blinked and saw a head poking out of the water. One yellow eye was staring back at him, while the left eye was white and dead. The captain knew there was only one way out of this situation. Whether it be good or not.
"Just... Make it fast." The captain closed his eyes. The beast charged forward and slammed it's teeth into the man and it also pierced underside of the ship.
THE NEXT DAY
Emily walked down to the living room of her house and saw her mother watching the news. She slowly approached her, but Meredith already heard her daughter's footsteps and turned to look at her.
The younger woman took a breath and sat down with her mother. The TV was still running but it was almost like they couldn't hear it due to them focusing on each other.
"Mama, sorry about last night." Emily said softly.
Meredith placed a hand on her daughter's head and pressed her head against Emily's.
"It's fine Em, I get it. You just want you father's work to last. I shouldn't have tried to talk you out of it." Meredith proceeded to kiss Emily on the forehead.
"But what I said-" Emily was cut off.
"Shhh. Just forget about that night, love. Besides, who knows, maybe your papa actually was onto something." Though Meredith wasn't sure whether or not she should believe the journal entries, she had to admit that they were expertly written. They weren't written as if a rambling theorist was just spouting nonsense. They actually contained details and specifics when it came to Nessie.
Emily rested her head on Meredith's right shoulder as her mother held her close. It wasn't easy living without Fergus. Even after twelve years, they still haven't gotten over his death. With him gone, it felt like the house was quieter. He may have been a scientist, but he was also a family man, and one who loved bonding with his family more than progressing his work.
"A fishing vessel was recovered in the far side of Loch Ness. There is no crew on board, but it seems that they were attacked last night." A news caster said.
Both Emily and her mother turned their attention to the TV. An attack? They haven't heard of something like that happening in Loch Ness before. Especially not something like this where a boat was found with no crew.
The television showed the wreck of the ship which was hauled onto a beach. The back of the ship was broken and it looked like something heavy was dropped on it.
"We cannot confirm what happened to the ship, but investigators have found something that may explain the wreck." The news caster continued.
The screen then showed a plastic ziplock bag used to preserve evidence, and within the bag was a tooth. The tooth was 4.8 inches long and didn't look like it came from a shark or anything of the sort.
"We are still awaiting further analysis, but from what the investigators have gathered, it seems as though the ship was attacked by an unknown animal. This tooth was jabbed into the side of the ship's underbelly. There's also a large bite mark in the spot where the tooth was found." The news caster finished as an image of the bite was shown.
"Goodness. Looks like nobody's going into the Loch anytime soon." Meredith observed.
Emily's eyes were glued to the screen. That tooth didn't look like any tooth of any known fish or mammal that lived in the Loch. It was way too different to have come from a shark.
However, she didn't think it was her father's secret either.
"She would never... Nessie wouldn't do this." Emily whispered.
"Em?" Meredith asked.
"It's nothing. I'm just shocked something like this just happened out of the blue." Emily answered.
She wouldn't do this would she? Her father's entries described Nessie as a docile creature who didn't mind being around humans. Why would she suddenly attack a fishing boat?
Another thing to note is when it happened. Nothing in Fergus' notes ever mention Nessie being active during the night. And absolutely nothing he wrote mentions anything about her hunting on the surface. She mainly hunts in the depths and uses her lair to refill her air.
If it isn't her, what is it? And if it is Nessie, why did she decide to attack a random fishing boat out of nowhere? Every other boat that has crossed her territory has never been attacked. This doesn't make any sense.
But she does know someone who could make sense of it.
"Hey, mama. Jon is a marine biologist now right?" Emily asked.
"Oh, Jhonatane Richards? Yes, that's what he told me on the phone, why?" Meredith wondered.
"I think it's finally time we brought him home." Emily proposed.
Meredith stayed silent for a few minutes. She stared at the TV that showed more of the wreckage then back to her daughter.
"But why Jon specifically? We can literally just call any other marine biologist." Meredith suggested.
"No, they wouldn't believe papa's research. Jon would, he's lived here. Remember that one time me and him said we saw something under us that was black and had long fins? Maybe that's what this thing that attacked the boats is." Emily explained.
"But you were kids back then. Who knows what attacked that boat." Meredith replied.
"Like I said, if we contact someone else, they probably won't take papa's entries seriously. I know Jon would because he treated papa as if he was a second dad. There's no reason to think he wouldn't." Emily furthered.
Meredith nodded. Jon would know what it's like to live here and what people believed in. Hell, he used to believe in Nessie. He would have no problem believing in Fergus' notes. That is if he still believes in something like Nessie.
But behind all of that, Meredith knows that getting Jon to come here to investigate the case wasn't the only reason Emily wanted him to come.
"Lemme guess, you also want him to come just for old time's sake? I can't blame you. I heard he's quite a good looking man now." Meredith giggled.
Emily rolled her eyes.
"He's just my best friend, mama. Plus, we haven't seen each other in years. He probably has a girlfriend now." The younger woman whined.
"Hey, anything can happen." Meredith smirked.
Emily smiled when she heard that. It's something her father used to say when he was around. After that, Emily walked out of the house and stared into the Loch.
She held her father's journal close to her and closed her eyes. The wind blew through her hair as she opened her eyes once more.
"I know it wasn't you. I just know it. You saved my papa and my aunt. You would never hurt people. Don't worry, I'll- we'll protect you, Nessie." Emily said.
THE END (For now.)
What do you think about the finale? Now, this isn't the end of Nessie's Loch. This is merely the prologue to a bigger story.
February 27, 2006
It's either I'm out of my mind, or I have a death wish. Either way, there's no way I'm letting this slip.
This is Fergus Smith again, and at this point, you must be all too familiar with my recent field studies if you've read the previous logs on this journal. After the last dive in January, I started to plan out what to do once I head out into the Loch again.
Since I now know where to look for the possible location of my target, it will be far easier to navigate my way over to the cave I stumbled upon. I am still cautious though. That humming sound still hasn't left my mind after a month. Sometimes I even hear it while doing mundane things like cooking but those occurrences are probably happening due to the trauma I experienced during that last dive. Almost being torn to shreds by a saw shark must've really messed with my head, and that humming sound only worsened everything.
This time around, I am far more prepared than I was before. Because before, I was doing this alone. But now I've finally come to the conclusion that this type of expedition needs more than one person. Which is why I decided to make a small team of people who share similar interests. Some of the people in the group were very close friends of mine who were into diving and one of my teammates happened to be my sister, Annabelle.
There were about seven of us, since most of the towns near Loch Ness believed in the creature's existence, it's no surprise my friends also believed in her. And they were convinced almost immediately to join me because they knew I was present during the incident with the Great Loch Eel. It's what fueled their interest of also wanting to find out what is beneath the surface.
The main reason I brought my sister along was because she was also interested. But she promised not to tell anyone if something does end up happening. We also brought cameras with us for documentation purposes. Along with that, we brought more than one spear gun with us that would help ward off any of the Great Loch Eels or the Hasturpis sharks.
We also brought communication devices in the form of specialized suits that had those devices installed in them. They were similar but were less bulky than the suits I used whenever the company I worked for asked me and my colleagues to take a dive
The rest of the team, apart from two who were on the boat, were spread across the area of the cave and they were put there to notify us just in case if something was approaching our location.
Me and my sister dove in, both wearing chainmail suits. We had lights attached to the suits, spear guns held by a strap on our backs, and cameras. Annabelle told me that she felt like she was in a horror movie or a documentary when we were approaching the area where the unknown animal slaughtered the Hasturpis.
Nothing much happened during the dive. Although, I looked into the distance often to make sure we weren't being followed. The others would also communicate with us through their suits and told us that they couldn't see anything that looked out of the ordinary. But just as one of my friends said that, I saw something move behind him. But now I'm sure of it that I was seeing things because that's not what I would come to discover later so it may have been the Loch messing with me again. After my last dive, it's not out of reason to assume I'd be having at least some kind of hallucinations due to trauma.
Both of us swam into the cave, as we did, I could barely see the rotten remains of the Hasturpis shark that was kill here a month ago. Nothing was left apart from the rostrum. I told my sister about it before, I can tell that she didn't believe me at first. But after that, there's no mistaking that she was beginning to piece together what I went through here. As if me telling her about it wasn't enough.
The lights illuminated the dark void that were were swimming through. The only fish we could see were small fish that I could only describe as being a fish's equivalent to a bulldog. They resemble the prehistoric fish Xiphactinus that went extinct during the Cretaceous. But they were probably a smaller relative of that fish since they were not nearly as large as the Xiphactinus I'm familiar with.
Once we passed the swarm of bulldog fish, nothing else came through. As if this place was completely barren and has been left to rot. There were several bones in this area, a lot of them were very long vertebrae of some kind. And they most definitely did not look like any bones I've seen before in the Loch. These were something else. They couldn't have been from the eels, these bones were larger than they were and from what I could see, longer.
As I was focusing on documenting the bones with my camera, my sister tugged at my shoulder and pointed upwards. It looked like the water we were swimming in was... Not that deep? That can't be possible, the place in which this cave was located in was one of the deepest parts of the Loch.
Whatever the case was, we ascended. When we finally reached the surface, our heads came out of the water and what we saw was another giant cave. But this one had solid ground that we could walk on. Me and Annabelle swam over to the rocks and quickly made our way out of the water and onto dry land, if that's what this was.
I contacted the rest of my team about this. Me and my sister took off our diving gear and walked around the cave to examine it. I pulled out my camera again and started to take pictures of the area. Sure, there wasn't anything of note at the moment, but it was still surreal finding a cave like this in this depth, yet we could walk on it as well as we would on a sidewalk.
Annabelle called me over, says she found something of interest. I made my way over to my sister and what I saw made my jaw drop.
It was one of those eels, the Great Loch ones. This one was a little larger than the one that took Shane's leg. I'd say it was about twenty four feet in length. But since it's on dry land, it must have been dragged over here by something. And it's clearly dead because when I went to poke it with the tip of my spear gun, it did not react.
Something to note about the carcass was that while it did show signs of decomposing, it also showed signs that something has been feasting upon it. And I can tell that this was a recent kill due to the fact that the corpse was still relatively intact and fresh.
This startled my sister. If that thing died on land, does that mean there's something inside this cave strong enough to pull out a twenty four feet eel out of the water with ease? I assured her that she would be safe as long as we stayed together. I almost lost Shane to these mysterious beasts, they're not taking my sister too. If I had known that the situation would be this dire, I wouldn't have brought her along.
We continued to walk around the cave. The more we looked, the more remains we found. It seems that whatever this predator is, it likes to feast on these eels as it's primary source of food. It would explain why there were so many eel remains inside the cave like bones and skulls.
Just as I was about to document more of the remains, the rest of the team from outside communicated with us and one of the team members sounded like he was panicking as he was alerting us that there was something that just passed by them and was entering the cave.
Considering what we know about this predator, it seems that it can go on land so its best if me and my sister found a hiding spot. We hid behind a wall of rocks and hoped that the creature would just leave. If it's territorial, then that would be an even bigger problem because it won't leave until it seeks us out.
I embraced my sister as softly as I could to comfort her. She loved diving, but even she would be lying to herself if she said she wasn't terrified of what was about to happen. And I was no different.
A sound came through. It was the sound of something coming out of the water. I gritted my teeth and I held my sister closer. I know I set out to answer a mystery, but because of this, I was considering cancelling any future dives to find this creature. Because to me at least, it's seems like an animal that doesn't want to be disturbed.
I kept telling Anna that we would be fine and that it would leave, and once it did, we would leave as well. But then, fear came rushing back the moment I heard another sound. A familiar, haunting howl. It's the same one I heard right before the Hasturpis was attacked.
We spent about twenty minutes waiting for it to leave. At that point, I couldn't hear anything. The humming was gone and I didn't hear any splashes. It must mean that the beast has left.
Oh, how wrong I was.
Me and my sister casually came out of our hiding spot. I told her I was going to run over to where our diving gear was which was just around the wall we were hiding. But the moment we rounded the corner, I'd see a sight that would almost make me rethink everything I knew.
She... She was beautiful. Her movements were elegant and graceful. Her eyes contained wisdom that most person wouldn't be able understand. People kept disregarding her as nothing more than a myth, a legend, a way for the towns to get revenue. And yet, here I was staring at a modern marvel.
Nessie was certainly a Plesiosaurus, that's for sure. But not like the ones I've been researching about. Her neck was bending like a swan's, which shouldn't be possible. A Plesiosaurus' neck is not designed to bend like this. They can only move their necks from side to side and even then, it's theorized that the necks were very stiff when it came to movement. But Nessie was moving her neck in any which way she chose. She also had a giant fin or sail on her back. It reminded me of some depictions which show Nessie with three humps on her back. But instead of humps, she had sails.
Her main color was a bright yellow, her underbelly was a cream color, and she had multiple stripes and dots on the top of her body that looked like the stripes people would see on some sea snakes or something similar. And she had a relatively large tail fluke on the tip of her tail. Her flippers had sharp edges on the front and she had a sharp head filled with teeth that were uneven like the ones on
crocodiles.
She was different from the creature Jhonatane mentioned. The one he described was completely black in color. Either that was a different specimen, or the Loch made it look as if Nessie had a different color scheme.
Nessie's neck was above the water and she stared at me. She hasn't made any aggressive moves so I tried to look as harmless as I possibly could. Besides, even with that long neck of hers, there's no way she can reach us.
But she wouldn't need her neck in order to do that.
As if her neck bending like a swan's wasn't peculiar enough for a Plesiosaurus, Nessie moved over to where me and my sister were. She placed a flipper on the rocky land, then another, and another. So not only is she a new type of Plesiosaurus, she was also one who could spend an extended amount of time on land and move like a turtle. This was definitely something I did not expect but I was intrigued nonetheless.
My sister stood behind me as I was slowly hovering my left hand above my spear gun. I know I just discovered a new species, but I need to defend me and my sister first before I inspect Nessie further.
When she got in front of us, I looked into her eyes again. There was no anger, no fear, and no violence in those eyes. They were relaxed and composed. I drew my spear gun out by I tossed it aside. Nessie looked over to the gun then back at me. She then pushed me, I tipped over and fell to the ground.
However, she didn't do this out of malice. I can tell that she was being playful and curious. If she really did want to kill us, she would've already done so.
She moved her head over to me again. I took off my gloves and extended my hands as my sister watched in awe. I nervously but quickly ran my hands through the sides of her face with my hands. I laughed like a child, she wasn't like how people described her. Most people depict her as a monster who wants nothing more but to cause havoc, yet as she is right now, she's as kind as a puppy.
My sister joined in and stroked the top of her head. Nessie let out a sound that almost sounded like purring. She was enjoying this as much as we were. I wanted to stay down there for as long as possible. But I already realized it has been two hours since the dive. We have to get back to the boat before something happens to the team. But before that, I managed to take a few pictures of Nessie.
I contacted the team from outside and said that the expedition was a success. We then began to ascend back to where the boat was.
This went way better than I thought it would. I don't know if what I saw down there was real or was just my mind making stuff up just because I was desperate, but it's a sight I would never forget.
Unfortunately, we weren't out of the danger zone yet. While I was lost in my thoughts, one of our teammates alerted me about two animals that were headed our way.
It's those damn eels again. I quickly drew out my spear gun and when one of the eels got close, I shot the right side of it's body. But the spear wasn't enough to kill it. Both of the eels began to circle me and my team.
We were trapped. Can't I just go on one dive without something bad happening? But just as I was beginning to panic, a sound that used to disturb me came through. This sound didn't scare me anymore, it was almost like a siren of safety.
I told my team that there was nothing to be afraid of and that she would take care of things for us. One of my teammates asked who I was talking about, but I didn't respond because I wanted them to see for themselves.
Nessie rushed into action. She pulled one of the eels away as the other one fled. It wasn't obvious, but I was smiling. Not only is she not as aggressive to humans as we previously thought, but she went out of her way to protect me and my group.
We soon surfaced and got back onto the boat. My team had a lot of questions, sure, I would answer them all as we were driving back to Fort Augustus.
January 2, 2008
Here I am now, sitting in my room writing this. And this i what I understand about Nessie's behavior as of right now.
I've heard reports saying that sharks generally don't like the taste of human flesh. I forgot to mention this before, but I did see one human skeleton in Nessie's lair, but only one. Which means that she probably doesn't like human meat either. Maybe when she first tried eating human flesh, she killed someone then dragged them into her cave. But she didn't like the taste which is why she didn't attack us. She is also quite docile and kind. She allowed me and my sister to get close to pet her and she didn't resist. She also saved my team which makes me think that she is far more intelligent than any reptile on the planet.
As it stands right now, should I reveal this to the world? I mean, look at what I just found here. A living Plesiosaurus who lives in Loch Ness, something that people have ridiculed for years and yet, I managed to find one in the most unexpected place. And now I have an explanation as to how she's able to evade detection.
Nessie uses the cave as a station of sorts whenever she needs to refill her air. As I've mentioned, there's a section in the cave that has no water so it would explain why she doesn't come up to the Loch's surface in order to breathe. And something else I've noticed is that she might be the natural predator of the eels since most of what she eats are them. I haven't seen anything else go after those eels other than her so she's the most likely option if I were to categorize any of those creatures as the Great Loch Eel's natural predator.
Now, you may think I'm selfish, but I'm not. After thinking about it, I threw the pictures into a fire. I don't want anyone else knowing about Nessie because I know damn well what happens when us humans encounter something like her. They will hunt her for sport, or kill her just because they don't understand what she is and I don't want that. She's probably the last of her kind, shouldn't she be allowed to live for much as she wants to? The only ones who know about this are Annabelle and my team, and we've all agreed that we wouldn't tell anybody this for Nessie's sake because she saved us.
You may be asking why I'm writing this in the first place if I don't want anybody to find Nessie. Well, technically that's not true. I'm not exactly on the younger end of the spectrum, so someone else needs to protect Nessie once I kick the bucket.
Emily, my dear daughter. If you are reading this, I hope you will put what I've written to good use. Search for the deepest part of the Loch, then find a cave filled with bones. That's where you'll find my secret. Please, I hope that you will honor my wish and protect Nessie. It's only fair after she protected me from those eels. I know this is much to ask of you, but do this old fool a favor and help me preserve one of our worlds last living legends.
And if you need to know what she looks like, I'll give you a sketch right here. Just know I'm not the best at drawing so excuse me if it looks too simple. And I might have left out some minor details such as the sharpened edges on her flippers.
I named her species Plesiosaurus Elapucustos. Her species name translates to "Evading Guardian". It's a reference to how even though she may try to avoid us most of the time, she does occasionally swim by to protect us like how a guardian would. She measures at 38 feet long and she is 12 feet high when her neck breaches the water, but she might be able to grow bigger. Her weight is 5 tons but she can move really fast.

I am writing this entry on such short notice because I'm not sure how much time I have left. I've fallen ill and I am unsure on what kind of sickness I may have contracted. Recently, I've been experiencing symptoms that have made it hard for me to talk to people and listen to what they have to say. I'm afraid I'm on my last legs.
Just a few months back, me and my team dove back into that cave to check on Nessie. She seems to be fine. She's still eating well and we haven't seen any scars on her which means nobody has found her yet.
Some people may say I'm insane. Maybe they'll say I'm just making up a tall tale. Maybe, but we won't really know unless we go into that cave, huh?
I first set out on this expedition to expose a creature that may pose a danger to the people living near the Loch. And now I'm doing everything I can to protect her. Funny how fate works sometimes.
Emily, do not go down there on your own. If you know someone who can dive deep, take them with you. Don't be a fool like how I was when I encountered that Hasturpis.
I hope that you will understand what I'm saying to you is real. Do not throw this book away and ignore it just because you think I'm insane. Like I said, I don't know how much time I have left, but I want you to remember one last thing.
If you think Nessie is just a way for our towns to get money, forget about that. What I want you to do... Is believe.
Love, papa.

What do you think?
January 15, 2006
Plesiosaurus is an aquatic reptile that lived during the Early Jurassic Period 200 million years ago. It's name translates to "Near-to-lizard" and it is sized at 10-16 feet long and weighed about 500 kilos. It was first discovered in 1823 and it was theorized to have swam through the European seas. It had a long neck, a fairly bulky body, and four long flippers on the sides of it's body and a tail fin that helped it swim.
This is the creature that most people think Nessie is. Ever since the famous Surgeon's Photo from 1934, everyone has thought of her as such. Even statues of her have been mounted across the towns near Loch Ness and almost all of them depict Nessie as a Plesiosaurus.
However, this theory is usually regarded as dubious by scientists due to the nature of a Plesiosaurus. They are reptiles that have no gills so they have to come up for air. If Nessie really were a Plesiosaurus, she'd be spotted easily because she would frequently come up for air, which leads me to believe in two possible explanations.
Explanation A: Nessie is a different species of Plesiosaurus that can hold their breath for longer than their Mesozoic counterparts.
Explanation B: She isn't a Plesiosaurus at all. And if she was, she might have evolved gills.
The latter explanation is the more plausible. A creature with gills would be able to hide itself better than one who needs to come up for air. If Nessie is more like a fish, then it would explain why nobody has seen her. Because most people envision her as a Plesiosaurus and not a giant fish.
However, I want to conduct a little experiment just to make sure. I asked my superiors at the company I worked for if they could cancel my dive for this month, they agreed after I lied to them and said I needed to take care of family matters.
After that, I set a course for Urquhart Castle. My goal here was to possibly get a glimpse of Nessie to test if she really is an air breathing animal. So I set up a lure in the form of a large chum bag that was wrapped in a net and was connected to a wire. Then I waited at the top of the castle, this place is a very popular attraction around here, but I'm using it as a temporary base of operations or a lighthouse of some sorts. I'll admit, it is quite absurd, but it's what we scientists do. We do absurd things in order to uncover the truth.
The chum bag was peacefully floating on the surface of the water as I patiently waited for any sign of the beast. To make sure my family doesn't find out about this, I simply told them I was going out to take a long walk. If they found out about what I was doing here, my wife would definitely have a lot of questions.
As the hours went by, nothing happened. I even took a short lunch break to eat and still, nothing touched the chum bag apart from a bunch of catfish that were attracted to it. I thought that at least one of those eels would come by, but it's clear to me that those things prefer deeper water.
Sufficed to say, I just wasted my time. I sat there all day trying to catch at least one good look, and came up empty handed. But hey, at least the catfish were satisfied with their food.
My wife asked me how my walk was, I simply told her that it was better than average. As I'm writing this right now, I'm getting the impression that Nessie is not an air breathing creature if she does exist. Because a thought came into my mind that should've been obvious from the start.
If Nessie was a reptile that required air, she would've been a surface dwelling animal. I probably would've seen her in full by now or at least would've spotted her silhouette, but nothing came from it. So it's possible that Explanation B might be the only way to explain why Nessie has been able to hide for so long.
Right now, I'm trying to think of what she might look like. If she is some kind of fish or just a creature that has gills, she must be of considerable size if she was the one who dragged that fifteen foot long eel down. Considering the size of the eel, Nessie must be at least forty or fifty feet long for her to be able to drag down an eel of that size. Which makes me wonder how a fish that is that big can move so fast without anyone catching a glimpse of it.
Then a thought came into my mind. What if she's actually a bigger eel? Predators are known to cannibalize each other, and we don't know how big those Great Loch Eels can get so maybe the one that damaged Shane's leg was a sub adult. If that's the case, I tremble to think of how massive she really is.
I've started to sketch out what she might be, if she is a fish, she'd have to be a very thin one if she can both drag down an eel nearly as big as a great white and is fast enough to bolt away without being seen. So she might be some kind of sturgeon relative since they're quite fast. But if she was, a forty foot long sturgeon would be incredibly slow. Any fish at that size wouldn't be able to swim fast enough to avoid detection.
This was getting harder and harder for me. I didn't think it would be this difficult to determine what she was considering that eels the size of the biggest living predatory sharks live in the Loch. But clearly, I underestimated how elusive she really is.
Although, there was still one option. What if I went back to where me and Shane encountered that eel? If that eel was roaming around in that area, it's possible that Nessie isn't too far from that place considering it's also where the eel was yanked off of the boat.
But as much as I want to go back there, there's an underlying dread I keep feeling. I know I want answers, but I fear that if I swim too deep, I will stay down there. One of my friends almost died to a super sized eel, who knows what other dangers lurk down there. I already know the answer to that. The only way to truly find out is if I go back there myself.
January 20, 2005
Here I was again, at the same site where that dreaded eel took my friend's leg. I stood on a ship I owned, looking down at the Loch. Part of me wanted to go back home and forget about this. If I go down there, there's a high risk of me immediately shortening my lifespan. I still want to see my daughter grow up. I want to see her achieve her dreams of becoming an artist. But until I find out what Nessie is and if there even is a creature which would be the modern equivalent of her, I can't just let this go. If I do, more people will end up like Shane. And I can't just stand by and let that happen.
I outfitted my diving suit with chainmail. This stuff is sometimes used to lessen the damage of shark bites. I just hope and pray that it will be enough to deal with what's down there.
Once I dove in, it almost felt like entering a portal that leads into another world. When divers talk about being underwater as if they were transported into another world, they weren't lying. This is the most vulnerable I've felt in my whole life. My colleagues weren't here to pull me up and the only thing stopping anything from killing me down here is a suit of chainmail that I'm not even sure will be enough.
I gently swam through the murky waters, I swam near the rocky walls of the Loch, making sure that I don't venture too far off or else I might get lost and will have to ascend which could lead to me losing a leg as well. I also brought a spear gun and a flare gun with me just in case I need to defend myself.
When I came to the floor of the Loch, I was immediately greeted by a school of fish swimming away at the sight of me. I constantly looked around to make sure nothing was going to sneak up on me. After twenty minutes, I began to swim again to see what I can find if I went further. It was 7:30 in the the morning so it wouldn't be difficult for me to navigate the upper part of the Loch just in case I need to get away from something.
The light attached to my suit was the only thing that helped me see. The sun's light, while it would be visible once I swam up, was barely noticable down here. If this light goes out, nothing will stop a predator from latching onto me.
It was that moment that I noticed an abnormality. I swam and swam, then found out I was swimming straight into a cave of some sorts. I've been diving in this lake for half of my life, and I've never seen a cave in this part of the Loch before. Was it ever documented? I don't remember hearing about this cave in any paper or article that mentions the geography of the Loch.
Since this cave was presumedly a new discovery of mine, I needed to go inside just in case if I would end up finding something in there. However, I froze.
Why, you may ask? Was it another eel? No, in fact, in my opinion, it was far worse.
It was a saw shark. A large one at that. This thing must have been twenty three feet long. It has a spear like rostrum with multiple spikes on the side and it also had spines on the front of each of it's fins.
While I was familiar with saw sharks even though I've never seen one up close, I couldn't identify what this one was. It's rostrum was unique in that I've never seen it in any saw shark before. It was swimming above me, how I never noticed it, I don't know. What I do know however, is that I just found another new creature.
But finding something new in this place hasn't exactly proven to be a good thing.
With one swift turn, the shark tried to whack me with it's spear like appendage. I swam into the cave and his behind some rocks, but the shark was on my tail. I've never heard of a saw shark that was this aggressive towards humans before. However, it's very clear that this one is more of a hunter than the usual saw sharks. What's weirder is that saw sharks generally don't live in the Loch. So what was this thing doing in it?
I swam into a small crevice in the cave and curled myself up in a fetal position so I would fit inside. The shark tried to poke it's rostrum inside of the crevice I swam in. What a fool I was. I was so desperate to escape the shark, I ended up getting trapped with no way out. The only way I would be able to ward it off is if I shoot it. But there wasn't any space for me to aim my spear gun.
As much as I tried to calm myself down to reserve air, the rostrum was getting too close to the point where I almost forgot to do so. The tip of the spear like appendage was about to touch my goggles. What the hell did I get myself into? I cursed myself as the shark inched closer and closer. If my wife found out I did this and shamed me, I wouldn't blame her.
But just as the shark was about to reach me, a humming sound was heard. No, it was the call of some kind of animal. I closed my eyes and hoped for the best. Whatever that other creature is, I don't care. I know I'm done. This cave will be my grave, that's all I know. I was too quick to go down here to find answers that I neglected to think about what the consequences would be, and now they were staring at me in the form of this shark.
After a four minutes, I expected to wake up in the afterlife. Maybe after I open my eyes I'd be greeted by clouds. And yet, what I saw was not heaven.
Blood painted the water red. The shark's rostrum was no longer inside of the crevice I was in. I took this opportunity and rushed out of the crevice and out of the cave. I didn't swim too fast or else I'd get The Bends. But I swam as fast as I could, I didn't even turn to look back and see what that other creature was, I just wanted to escape.
After I got back to the ship, I immediately bolted out of there. Going in there with just a suit of chainmail, one spear gun, and a flare gun was a mistake I need to learn from because it almost cost me my life.

Here I am again, let's just say the next entry in this journal might not be added until much later, because after that last dive, I need to think about this more carefully before I go for another one, but that doesn't mean it wasn't a fruitless experience.
While that shark terrified me, I must admit, it was interesting seeing one of those in this Loch. I've lived in Fort Augustus my whole life and it is near Loch Ness. But I've never heard a report about a saw shark entering the Loch. It was most definitely not a known species of saw shark due to how different it's rostrum was and the fact that it was living here in secret. The fact that it was able to sneak up on me without me noticing is a good indicator that this creature might be an ambush predator, I couldn't see too much of it's coloration because I was too focused on keeping myself away from its rostrum, but from what I did see, it appeared to be a dirty brown color and it also had wavy stripes. I've decided to name this shark "Hasturpis" which translates to "Spear Shark". I will not publish this information until someone else reports it, because if I do, everyone will question me since I'm the only one who saw it, at least from my knowledge. And I would need photographic evidence of it or else nobody would take me seriously because if I'm being honest, word of mouth is the worst kind of evidence. People can say they saw a shark hybrid mixed with a crocodile, yet unless there are photographs that shed light on the subject, there's no way to confirm those claims.
And about that humming sound, that's what I really want to focus on. Up to this point, I haven't heard anything like that. It did not sound like ambience or just random sounds, it sounded like some kind of animal vocalization. But what animal would fit the bill of that sound?
It definitely wasn't a dolphin or a whale. But it did mammalian in a sense. Although, if it was a mammal, it would be easier to spot because aquatic mammals also need to come up for air. The sound had two segments, the first starts off with a low growl that gets louder and louder as it continued. All I can say is that it probably was a predator judging from the fact it massacred that shark.
It is possible I might have had my first encounter with Nessie. I can't say if this is true or not but that's what I'm thinking. No animal in the Loch sounds like that. At least none of the known animals in the Loch sound like it.
That cave is also a point of interest. Since it's fairly large, I wonder if that's what Nessie uses to hide herself. Perhaps there's more to that cave than I previously thought. I definitely need to check it out again, but not right now. I'm still recovering from what had happened. All I told my wife and daughter was that I had a technical issue while out on the Loch.
I don't know what it is, but ever since I heard that humming sound, it's been haunting me in my sleep. I've barely gotten a good sleep ever since I first heard it because I have barely thought about anything apart from finding out what is down there. I know this sounds stupid and it probably is, but at some point in the near future, I have to go back there. But I need to be more careful. I can't just barge in there alone expecting to get out of there alive. I only escaped because I was lucky that another predator was around. If it wasn't, that shark would've gotten an easy meal.
I don't know when the next entry is going to be released, but just know that when it does come out, then I would've gotten my answers. If it doesn't come out and this is the last entry, then you know where to find my corpse.
She won't be able to hide for long.
TO BE CONTINUED.
What do you think? Also, yeah, that shark is the same one featured in Sauria Island.
August 6, 2005
My name is Fergus Smith. I am a local biologist who lives in Fort Augustus. I mainly focus on studying the marine population of the Loch and I mostly spend my days researching the amount of species that live in the Loch. I was assigned to do this to monitor the number of species and if any of them are decreasing rapidly, it's all done for the purpose of conservation.
Recently, I took a trip to the Loch to monitor the eel population. Me and my team were slowly dipping ourselves into the darkness of that mysterious lake. If anything was to be feared here, it would be the low visibility. It almost looked like we were swimming in a fog considering how dark the water was, but there was no reason to be afraid. I have dove down here multiple times in the past. And to insure our safety, the company I work for gave us suits that are specialized for a few purposes, to prevent water pressure from being a problem, and so that if we manage to touch the ground, we can freely walk on it.
Me and my colleague, Shane, were walking around a part of the Loch. The suits had wires connected to them that would be used to pull us up just in case of an emergency.
The suit also had lights that would help us see better. Most of what we saw were the usual. Small eels and catfish who fed on them. It's nothing new. In fact, nothing much happened during that dive. We collected details about the area and went back up again.
When we returned to the safety of our ship, the captain rewarded us with a meal at one of the local restaurants. We don't dive as much as we used to so he wanted to make every occasion special.
A month later, we were tasked to survey the Loch once more. Unfortunately, the Richards family has left recently. They've been good friends of mine for years, and their son, Jhonatane, was my daughter's best friend. They're moving to London now to find Jon a better school. Hopefully the young lad decides to visit us once he gets a job of his own.
During this survey, Shane brought some snacks on the boat which is something he hasn't done before. Since this was going to be our last dive of the year, he thought he might as well make it as special as he possibly could. The man was always such a joy to be around. He's charismatic but was never full of himself.
We dove down again, at first, there was little to no difference to this dive compared to the last one we had. The suits we used were outfitted with communication devices so with could speak to each other instead of using hand signals. Shane asked me what I was going to do for the rest of the year since we didn't have too much work to deal with. I simply told him I was going to spend the next few months with my wife and daughter. I haven't been bonding with my ladies too much because of work so it would be nice to spend some time with them before I have to work again later in January of next year.
Honestly, it kind of felt a little underwhelming for me. This was the last dive of the year yet we weren't getting anything new out of it. Still just the usual.
Just as me and Shane were about to be hoisted back to the boat, something slithery passed by my right leg. I thought nothing of it and continued to let the wires do their work.
Everything was going smoothly, that was until I noticed that the water was slowly turning red. Shane's communication device was shorting out and I turned my head sharply to look at him. What I saw next made me happy I wasn't going to be able to dive for the next few months.
There was an eel that was grabbing onto his left leg. Normally, this wouldn't be a problem. Eels here usually grow up to four feet long and don't go past that. But my blood ran cold when I saw this eel. It must have been at least fifteen or twenty feet long. That's almost the size of a great white.
Since I was close, I pulled out a knife from the suit and jabbed it into the eel's head while we were being pulled up. I may be a conservationist, but I can't let a good man die to something like this. As much as I hated to do it, I drove that knife deeper.
Once we were pulled out, Shane was quickly placed onto the ship, with the eel still attached to his leg. The captain and the crew tried to pry the beast's jaws open so they could focus on applying first aid to Shane's damaged leg. It took a while, but the eel was finally removed.
After that, Shane passed out due to stress, but he was still alive. Half of the eel's body was dangling off the boat since it was far too long for it to be pulled onto the boat.
But that did not mean that something else wouldn't be able to pull it down.
A few minutes after the eel was removed from Shane, the corpse was violently yanked away by an unseen force just as I was about to grab my knife. The ship rocked, but thankfully didn't sink.
Later on, Shane's family thanked me for saving him and gave me money in return. I didn't care much for the cash, all I cared for was my friend's health. While he was still alive, unfortunately, Shane could not walk anymore because the eel damaged his leg to the point where it went numb.
What I saw that day was no normal eel. They don't grow like that. They shouldn't be able to grow that long, and yet, my friend lost his ability to walk because of that monster. This made me wonder whether or not that was what people were afraid of.
If you haven't noticed it now, you must be living under a rock. The reason why Loch Ness is so popular isn't because it's a beautiful sight to behold or because the towns have good tourist attractions. No, the reason why it's so well known is because of a certain someone who seems to be the queen of hide and seek.
Yes, I am indeed talking about the Loch Ness Monster, or Nessie as we call her. She is why this town is visited by so many people. They're trying their best to get a glimpse of her and yet, every single attempt falls flat on its face. Hell, the original photo taken in 1934 was a fake. From what I've heard, it's just a toy submarine with a head mounted onto it.
But what I saw that day made me rethink things. What if there actually is a monster in Loch Ness? Maybe it's not like the one people are more familiar with, but it's clear to me that something is down there. And I'm not talking about the eel. As I've mentioned, the eel was dragged down by something. It couldn't have just been the eel's corpse slipping off of the boat on its own. If that was the case, how come it looked like it was pulled down by something? The ship wouldn't have been rocked if the eel had just slipped off of the boat. All that would've been felt was a slight shift in weight.
There's something else under there that I didn't see. That eel's attack was so sudden. Neither me or Shane saw it coming, but what if that attack was unintentional? What if it was a stressed animal that was lashing out at everything it saw because something else was tailing it?
It would definitely explain why it was dragged down by an unseen force. And before it was lost, we actually managed to take some samples from the eel. We examined it to find out more about it and to give it a proper name. But I'm convinced that it was trying to escape something that was hunting it, and in the process, it ran into me and my colleague.
October 26, 2005
It's been two months since that attack. The eel was named "Lacuserpen" which translates to "Lake Serpent". It's common name is Great Loch Eel. My wife at first did not believe what I told her, but when I showed her pictures of what that thing did to my friend, her lips were sealed. My daughter often loved playing around the Loch, she'd always swim with Jon near the shores. But after that, I'm not letting any of my family touch that lake. If one eel can mess up Shane's leg to the point where he can't walk, I can't even begin to imagine what it would do to my little Emily.
I seem to recall Jhonatane talking about something right before he and his family moved to London. During his last swim here with my daughter, he told me and his parents that he felt something swimming under his legs. He even said that he saw a black animal with long fins that darted away as soon as he saw it. Me and his parents chalked it all up to him and Emily making stuff up. They were known to do that. Like that one time they pretended as if there was a Megalodon in the lake because they were enthralled with the idea of a mega sized shark after watching Shark Attack 3.
But what if Jon wasn't making stuff up just because he was a kid trying to have fun? What if he really saw something under there? I mean, I really shouldn't be believing this if I'm being honest. He was of course, a twelve year old boy who liked swimming. Of course he'd make up a story like that. But what if he wasn't?
When he told us about it, he wasn't talking about it in a dramatic tone like he usually does, it actually looked as though he was genuinely scared by what he saw. And the biggest reason why I am inclined to believe his claim is because he wasn't the only one who saw that beast. My daughter, Emily, did as well. She told me the exact same thing Jon did, a black figure with long fins that swam away as soon as it was seen.
I don't know what is out there. But if that eel is anything to go by, keeping secrets is this lake's specialty. I don't care if I'm going in blind or I'm desperate. I need answers and I'm going to dive as deep as I can to find them. If I want my family to be safe, I need to learn more about what is happening down there. Because if I
don't, the next time my little Emily or my wife take a swim in there, It may very well be their last.
Wherever you are, whatever you are, if you are Nessie or not, I will find you. And I will get my answers.

What do you think?
Sauria Island is a novel series that me and my brother are developing. It focuses on prehistoric animals that live on an island that has been isolated from the rest of the world. I've posted tons about it on here, mostly concerning the characters, plot points, and lore of the series.
The series mainly contains Mesozoic and Cenozoic creatures that have evolved far beyond their prehistoric counterparts. It features dinosaurs, Pterosaurs, and unique mammals but there is probably one question that at least a few of you have been wondering about.
Where are the aquatics?
Funnily enough, Plesiosaurus was supposed to appear. However, it was replaced by Spinosaurus. So if that's the case, where are the aquatics? How come they aren't mentioned at all in Sauria Island? In fact, the only aquatic creature I've mentioned is not even the first thing someone thinks about when thinking about prehistoric aquatic animals. It's simply just a larger saw shark with a spear for a nose.
Remember when I mentioned the Influence Zone barrier and how it protects the island from dangers? What if during the Mesozoic it also managed to keep aquatic animals from dying? What if the barrier was able to reach a part of the sea at some point and it just lessened as Sauria Island moved away from its original position during the end of the Mesozoic?
You see, before Sauria, I had an idea to make a series called "Cryptiverse" which would focus on stories about real life legends called cryptids. At first, this series was going to be its own thing. It was going to stand on its own as a separate series that also featured prehistoric animals in modern day. But then a thought
crossed my mind.
What if the Sauria Island and the Cryptiverse took place in the same universe? It would explain why some prehistoric animals still exist in the modern day even though they aren't on Sauria. Which is why I've decided that I would put these two in the same universe now called the "Paleoverse Saga".
Here are the stories that will take place on Sauria:
Sauria Island
Sauria Island 2: Day vs. Night
Sauria Island: Stomp The Halls (Holiday Special)
Sauria Island III: Trespassers
And here are the stories that will take place on the mainland. However, not all of these are aquatic tales.
Nessie's Loch
Champ's Lake
Crown of Teeth
Footprint Makers
The Loch and The Lake
Nessie's Loch sees marine biologist Jhontane Richards return to his home of Loch Ness to investigate an attack that recently occurred. With the help of his childhood friend, Emily Smith, and paleontology expert, Brandon Curry, they will set off to find this mysterious threat before it takes more lives. What they don't know is that the culprit of the murder is not what it seems.
In Champ's Lake, young Jay Curry must face his fear of the lake to confront the one thing that's been haunting his deepest fears ever since he was young. After an accident happens which leads to the town forbidding anybody from entering the waters, Jay and a group of conspiracy theorists band together to solve this mystery. However, an unknown organization is also trying to find the culprit, but their reason is far different from Jay and his group.
Crown of Teeth will feature a Mosasaurus named Basil as the main antagonist. It will take place in Bear Lake and will see two warring reptiles battle in a lake with two brothers caught in the crossfire as they try to mend their relationship in the process.
Footprint Makers will take place in many places across the United States as a group try to find a mysterious creature who has been hunting random animals and humans. It will feature a Gigantophitecus named Bigfoot. However, they will quickly learn that Bigfoot is not the only primate they need to look out for.
The final entry as of right now is called The Loch and The Lake and will see Nessie meeting up with Champ in a crossover event of both stories.
As you can see, in contrast to the action and adventure style tone that Sauria Island is focused on when it comes to storytelling, the cryptid stories are more connected to the horror or mystery genre of fiction. While this does take place in the same universe as Sauria Island, I will try my best to keep them as self contained as possible while including a few references and nods to Sauria. But I will make sure that they can stand on their own even if the people who will read them might not have heard of Sauria Island.
Also, here's a poster for Nessie's Loch.
What do you think?
I havent posted in five months, mostly because of my work, and for that, i'd like to actually contribute something to this website. I got inspiration from @Nonotbeast for this post. I'm going to format it like his TR incident posts, so credit goes to him for that. I'll list three things that have happened since I last posted in his "Incident" format.
Note: The events i'm about to describe arent apart of his series.
"Diving archangels"
Creatures: Different types of Azdarchids, such as Crydrakon, Quetzalcoatlus, Hatzegopteryx, Arambourgiania, and Thanatosdrakon.
Type: Attack on aircraft carrier Gerald R Ford
Deaths: Unknown, but at least over 1,000.
Injuries: Also unknown, but again, likely in the thousands.
News from the USA is very spotty, the USA has cut off all contact after an unknown group took over it's government. The group taking over the government caused a civil war between multible factions in the USA.
The United Nations established contact with a few of these factions, some of them decided to work with the UN, while some didnt. One of them that didnt work with the UN was the Alabama-Lousiana Commonwealth fighting against the Cheseapeake Federation, one that was working with the UN.
The United Nations couldnt spare any troops, we have, and still are, on an offensive against the dinosaurs/lights. The UN could supply the Cheseapeake Federation with weapons.
The Cheseapeake Federation had already taken over a few former US military instilations, namely Langley Airforce Base, and Norfolk Naval Base, giving it more air and naval power than a lot of it's neighbors. But, the Alabama-Lousiana commonwealth somehow got ahold of the USS Gerald R Ford, the largest, and most powerful aircraft carrier in the world.
The Alabama-Lousiana commonwealth used this aircraft carrier to launch F-18 fighter jets at the Chesapeake Federation, which was starting to take a major toll on the Chesapeake Federations military.
To fill the gaps that the attacks caused, somehow, the Cheseapeake Federation had managed to tame dinosaurs. It's unknown how they did it, as all attempts to tame them previously have failed.
The Chesapeake Federation realized that they had to sink the aircraft carrier, or it would do even more damage to what little military they had left, so they gathered what few aircraft squadrons they had left, and launched a suprise attack on the aircraft carrier while it was off the coast of Bermuda.
The aircraft in these squadrons were F-35's armed with anti ship missiles, and F-22's armed with air to air missiles. The F-22's would cover the F-35's while they attacked the aircraft carrier, These planes were also joined by the first Azdarchid Squadrons.
The Azdarchid squadrons were formed of tamed adzarchids, like Quetzalcoatlus, and Hatzegopteryx, as well as a few other species. People would litteraly ride on the backs of them, and the Azdarchids would carry small bombs, and drop them on the aircraft while they were still parked on the aircraft carriers flight deck.
If all went well, the Azdarchids would strike first, bombing the carriers flight deck with the bombs, and taking out a number of fighter jets. Then, the F-35's would hit the carrier with multible anti ship missiles, and if any of the carriers fighter jets managed to launch, the F-22's would take them down.
What im about to write is from one of the people that was on one of the Azdarchids, during the mission:
"We were at a very high altitude, above the clouds. I doubted the enemy could see us. Most of their radars probably were not functional. Even if they were, their radars wouldnt be able to see the fighter jets flying alongside us, and they wouldnt be concerned by a few pterosaurs either.
Then, our flight lead gave the signal. We dove, I felt the wind rush by my face, we must have looked like WW2 dive bombers. I could see that my Quetzalcoatlus, I named him Archie, by the way, was holding on to the two fifty pound bombs very tightly. I saw our flight lead give the signal to drop the bombs, and I tapped Archie twice which was the trick I trained him to do in order for him to drop the bombs. He dropped them, and hit two of the F-18's parked on the aircraft carriers flight deck. We had to be maybe 500 feet over the aircraft carrier when we did this.
Then, the aircraft carriers CIWS batteries started going off. They would have gone off sooner, but the crew was inexperienced, and it was a suprise attack. I witnessed one of my squad mates azdarchid get it's wing sliced off by one of the CIWS. He was riding on a Hatzegopteryx, and I witnessed as it let go of it's bombs after it was hit, it's bombs slammed into the flight deck, not really hitting anything in particular, and then it and it's rider fell into the ocean.
I quickly got Archie to fly away from the carrier, before we were killed by the CIWS. I wouldnt have to wait long to get to safety, though, as the F-35's accompanying us roared past us, and unleashed their anti ship missiles, which slammed into the ships hull. The CIWS started to try to shoot the F-35's down, as they were a much larger threat than the Azdarchids.
A few F-18's somehow managed to launch themselves off the carrier, and tried to intercept the F-35's. By now, the carrier was already doomed, and it would not have actually mattered if they shot down the F-35's, but they tried to do it anyway. But, before they did, I watched as the fighter ace Rugops one shot down the F-18's singlehandedly.
A few hours later, the Gerald R Ford sunk beneath the waves, a few of our ships moved in to save the sailors that were aboard the ship. Not many survived, though. Most were picked off by marine reptiles, like Plesiosaurs, or mosasaurs."
"Lights in the forest"
Creatures: Lighthounds
Type: Lighthounds attack my Leopard 2a4, as well as a few other tanks in Czechia.
Deaths: 4 tankers dead
Injuries: Tankers in a challenger 2 tank had their hearing damaged.
The United Nations has launched a counter offensive on the dinosaurs/lights. On the first day of this counter offensive, I remember seeing hundreds of Main Battle Tanks. The UN is working as one military force, not multible seperate countries working together, so theres multible different types of tanks working together. (which is an awful fucking descision, for multible reasons, I don't know who decided we should do that, but it does look cool when we all work together.)
Like I said, on the first day, I saw hundreds of main battle tanks, IFV's and other vehicles moving in a desert storm style mass offensive just east of Frankfurt. I saw British Challenger Twos and FV105 Warriors, Italian Arietes and Dardos, French Leclercs, Polish M1A1 Abrams, Swedish Stridsvagn 122, tons of different countries were using Leopard 2a4's, Leopard 2a5's Leopard 2a6's, and even some russian tanks that were from post soviet states, and russian tank crews that had joined the UN after the russians started attacking their own civilians.
Anyways, this shows how many countries we were working with. The tank company im in contains tank crews from Germany (Where I come from) Poland, Sweden, and Czechia.
Anyways, the offensive started out with sucess, we managed to take back most of East Germany, and move into western poland, as well as take back all of Western Czechia, and Austria.
In this particular incident, that I was a part of, we were just north of the Slovakian city of Bratislava. Our tank company hadnt seen much action yet, the only thing we had done after the merging of the UN's militaries was attack a bunch of spinosaurs that were next to a river.
It was night time, and we were moving through a field, next to a wooded area. I am a crewmember of a Leopard 2a4, which a german tank. I was with a Challenger two, and two other Leopard 2a4's. We werent expecting to see anything, but one of the other german tanks commanders reported seeing something in the trees. I aimed my tanks gun in the direction they reported seeing it in, and I turned on the tanks thermals. Sure enough, something was there. I couldnt tell what it was.
I told my tanks commander about it, and he radioed to the other tanks that there was something in the trees. We turned our tanks turrets towards the trees, and tried to identify what it was. Our commander opened up their hatch, and looked outside. They said they saw a blue light coming from it, so we fired a few warning shots from our machine gun. Whatever it was started moving towards us, and that's when we realized that there was multible of them. One of them exited the treeline, which revealed that it was indeed a light hound.
The challenger 2 was the quickest to fire, it shot a sabot round. If you don't know what that is, a sabot is effectivley a depleted uranium or tungsten dart that is designed to penetrate as much armor as possible, while creating shrapnel inside the vehicle that it's shooting at. The sabot round tore through the light hounds neck, completely decapitating it. A few other light hounds exited the treeline, which we started shooting at.
The lighthounds were closing the distance between us very quickly, I managed to kill one of them, but then I witnessed one leap on top of the Leopard 2a4 next to us, and it started fucking clawing into it's top armor. The Leopard 2a4 has weak armor on it's roof, so it was easily able to get into the tank, and tore into it's crew. I turned our turret towards the light hound on top of the tank, and shot it with a HEAT round (HEAT stands for high explosive anti tank). This killed the lighthound, but when I turned the turret back around, there was two lighthounds surrounding the British Challenger 2.
I started firing the machine gun at them, while our tanks loader loaded a DM23 sabot round. (The best type of sabot round a leopard 2a4 can fire.) The other Leopard 2a4 rammed one of the lighthounds, while the Challenger 2 desperatley fought off the other lighthound, The other Leopard 2a4 managed to bring the other one down, but the Challenger 2's tracks were destroyed. The Challenger 2's armor was thicker, so the lighthound couldnt just tear through it's armor, so it just started pounding on it's roof armor with it's claws. This probably caused extremely loud noises within the challenger, which caused the crew of the tank to get bad hearing damage. It wasnt that bad, though. Our loader successfully loaded the DM23 round, and we blew that lightound off the tank.
We managed to take back Bratislava the following day, and the counteroffensive is still going suprisingly well.
