It was an ordinary day in late Cretaceous North America, dinosaurs doing their normal things, mammals coming out at night to do their things, in general, it was peaceful. The Pectinodon emerged from it's small burrow during a crisp morning in the month of spring, the snow of the winter had melted, and now it was warm. It spotted something peculiar, however, in the sky was what seemed to be a second sun, passing overhead at extreme speeds, headed south. It paid no attention to the odd thing however, and attacked a small mammal, making the creature it's next meal, then it heard a bellow, and immediately had one instinct: RUN, the Pectinodon ran away at it's highest speed, hearing the footsteps of the heaviest theropod to ever live. And although it escaped the beast, something far worse was headed for it's home. It spots multiple glowing streaks suddenly paint the sky, coming from the direction of the south, where it seemed like there was a second sunrise. It felt the air get hotter and hotter, then felt it's skin getting drier underneath it's coat of feathers, it looked for somewhere to hide, then, BOOM. A hunk of flaming rock crashed nearby in the underbrush, setting multiple trees ablaze and flinging the Troodontid, it quickly got back on it's feet and continued running. Spotting a Tyrannosaurus on fire, shrieking in pain, a herd of triceratops also began fleeing away from the direction of the flaming debris, then something else happened, the ground shook intensely, as if a herd of a thousand Alamosaurus were walking directly beneath them. Trees began to become uprooted and collapsed due to the quake, and the Pectinodon found a small hole in the ground, entering it quickly.
After a few hours, it surfaced to see what had become of it's home.. it was unrecognizable, the sky was darkenned and gray, there was almost no trees left standing, and the ones still standing were on fire, a chard tyrannosaurus skeleton was left outside the burrow it had hid in, and there was something truly terrifying: there was almost nothing left. A few dinosaurs still scurried about, such as a single Tyrannosaurus, though it was in horrible condition, it's skin burnt and appearing insanely starved. There was no herbivore in sight, just a few carnivores searching for something to eat. The Pectinodon itself could not find any food, a few birds flew overhead, although even they were in small numbers. And the Pectinodon knew, this was likely the end. It lived off a few small mammals, but it was not enough, eventually the Pectinodon began getting hungrier and hungrier, then finally. 1 month after the cataclysm that shook and scorched the planet, it starved to death.
