A near-complete skeleton found on Dorset's Jurassic coast has been identified as a new species of ichthyosaur, a type of prehistoric marine reptile that once ruled the oceans.
The dolphin-sized ichthyosaur has been named : Xiphodracon goldencapensis , or the " sword dragon of Dorset " and is the only known example of its kind.
◊ | Scientists say that marks on its skull suggest that the " sword dragon " may have been killed by a bite to the head, possibly inflicted by a much larger species of ichthyosaur... '''
Anyone reminded that great white shark that got tagged and than killed by something larger in the depths of Australia ? It is real by the way !

> ''' Aextraordinary fossil has blown the socks of palaeontologists as it was found to contain the soft tissues of a Temnodontosaurus ichthyosaur, marking the first time we’ve ever found soft tissue remains of a giant ichthyosaur and introducing new-to-science features that reveal how they hunted.
The discovery is going to revolutionize the way we look at ichthyosaurs, so said study co-author and palaeontologist Dr Dean Lomax ''' <
Paleontologists Identify Fossil from British Columbia as Early Jurassic Ichthyosaur
Which would make them related to the likes of Scutosaurus, take it with a grain of salt since its just a hypothesis

This is Cretaceous from Ice Age: the Meltdown. He is a hybrid Pliosaur just like Singey Dragon the hybrid Carnotaurus. I just find him too adorable to be the antagonist.
All I know is that it has some connection to Ichthyosaurs
Right now, I'm trying to plan out a story for my cryptid series called Crown of Teeth. It features a Mosasaurus as the main antagonist and in that story, it is what is known in real life as the Bear Lake Monster. However, I did mention in my announcement post that there is another aquatic reptile that the Mosasaurus will be fighting.
At first, I wanted it to fight a Tylosaurus. But I had trouble thinking of a design that would distinguish it from Mosasaurus so instead, I'm choosing to replace it and right now, I'm considering on replacing it with some kind of Itchyosaur.
So, can anybody tell me about an Itchyosaur that is fairly large but is not too large to where it would outclass a Mosasaurus? I don't know much about Itchyosaurs when it comes to size since most of the ones I've seen are smaller than Mosasaurus.
And if there aren't any Itchyosaurs that are in the 30-50 feet size range, can you suggest a different animal that may be in that size range? The only requirements I need are speed and size.

The Reptile-Dolphin (Erpetodelphinus Polychroma) is an Icthyosaur (probably an Ophthalmosaurid). The colors were inspired by various types of fish that live in tropical waters.
This animal is fairly small. Next, will be a gigantic Mosasaur, which is the exact opposite.

The article mainly focuses on aquatic animals, but also shows us what might have happened if azhdarchids and titanosaurs didn't go extinct. Enjoy.

Also, I noticed while creating tags for this post that we need a page for Azhdarchidae.
Btw this is the first google result for pelagornis
