Dinopedia's Dictionary

Yo dudes, its me Hobo! Wanted to make an announcement now that October is coming up and I promised there would be another editing challenge soon. Now, on to business.

Many know that the wiki side of this community is generally overshadowed by discussion boards (and most of the pages are generally less than acceptable), and since the last editing challenge I'd say was successful. This one is gonna be about the kings of the skies in the Mesozoic: the PTEROSAURS.

To start with we'll set a goal 150 edits, just to see how fast we're able to complete it, but this could be subject to change. If we get it done fast enough, we may just push it to even more! With that being said:

THE RULES:

• Each month we do one, we're only doing one subject, from the time this is posted to the end of October the theme will be pterosaurs, along with the closest relatives like Lagerpetids. This goes for their pages and any families/clades of pterosaur. Any other edits of other pages would be appreciated but wouldn't be counted towards your points.

• You have to self-report your edits here, to cut down on confusion. Just make a brief summary of what you did to the page (Ex: edited Hatzegopteryx, removed plagiarism, and added an image), this would count as one point. Now if you take a stub article that is only a sentence or two long (or making a brand new page for a pterosaur) and make it into a page more akin to the wiki's standards would add 5 points. Replacing all plagiarized content in pages with completely original info will also award you those. I'll give an example as the first comment if you guys are confused.

• Please don't just make your edits super low effort (such as just adding an image or a couple categories and calling it a day), that won't count here mostly due to it being an easy way to cheese the system and would clutter pages and this post to an unnatural degree. I'd like to be able to count these well.

• Please be civil towards each other, and don't start edit wars or anything.

• Oh and please only respond to this post to report your edits or ask any questions. Anything else will be deleted so we can count easier.

• Discord: The ability to choose what the movie/show (or if you want to stream your gameplay for some reason) is on for the discord watch party.

• Dinopedia-Only users: @LynxSoott makes art of any Dinopedia dinosaur character you’d like. @Cooner21 can make a fight thumbnail for you as well! @D1n0635 will draw for you as well. More rewards to be announced as artists volunteer

• Reward for both sides: Winner gets added to the main page for the month AND you will be added to the new Hall of Fame.

• Examples for families and clades: Felidae, Bovidae, Arthropoda.

• Examples for specific genera: Simurghia, Eocetus, Repenomamus.

Basically we (certain Dinopedians) got sucked into a portal into this weird world of things where whatever you guys suggest live and the (certain Dinopedians) become there profile picture (or for me a king duck)

Thanks to @BigDumFish99 for coming up with the idea. Hopefully this works so we can make this a monthly challenge to fix the wiki bit by bit, using themes and rewards every month!

So everyone wants the 2024 Dinopedia Slander, so like last time I'd like to ask everyone to list some slander ideas below. It could be of yourself, of someone else, a specific dinosaur, or for a whole group of dinopedian/paleo-fans.

I already have some in mind, but I don't wanna leave any of the biggest members out, so feel free to suggest as much as you want and I'll see what I can do :). Oh and give music ideas plz

I will request to make sure it isn't too mean to the point it could hurt someone's feelings or too niche of a slander for anyone to really understand. If you need examples, go over to my userpage to look at the existing videos I've made for what the average slander would look like.

Things have run a little slow as of late, and most of the interesting post ideas have either been overdone or I'm too untalented to actually do them lol

Could be accuracy reviews, memes, or idk doesn't even have to be a series. Could just be one big post idea, or maybe a video for the community. 2024 slander perhaps? :)

Give some ideas below, I need something to do 😭

I've noticed a few of our badges could use some updating, and some don't even have a Dinopedia theming! I wanna change it, so give some suggestions!

• First, the badge for making 5 edits is "New as Natovenator" but the genus is from 2022, so should we pick a newer genus so it stays relevant?

• Most of the category-adding badges don't have a theme, so what do you think we should add there? Maybe something with classification or families?

• Also need ideas for blog posts and comments on said blogs, so maybe making a statement or something noisy?

• ALL of the "edit for _ days in a row" badges have no theming besides the full year one, being "King of the Wiki". Got any ideas there? Maybe based on time periods?

• And of course "Welcome to Dinopedia" needs an image

Feel free to give your ideas down below, and I'd love to consider them for the badges so they can all be themed and make the wiki more fun to edit!
