It’s an extremely thin and frail animal, compared to the normal Polar Bear it’s a stick, the 1.2 Ton estimates are based on the weird myth of it being an oversized Cave Bear which was in fact a bulky and robust animal. This isn’t even mentioning the bulky, robust extinct Ursids Ursus Martimus Tyrannus(Tyrant Polar Bear) and Arctotherium.Arctotherium is roughly 1.5 Tons and the Tyrant Polar Bear,I haven’t found any size estimates so let’s do some math.
An Average Make Polar Bear is 3 Meters long and 700 Kilograms
Ursus Martimus Tyrannus is 3.5 Meters
3.5/3=1.166
700 x 1.166^3=1,109 Kilograms
Cave Bears are bigger at max size, however this is an AVERAGE.
A make was found a while back and was 1,175 Kilograms,he seems to be the largest known individual.
1,175/700=1.687
1,109 x 1.687= 1,860 Kilograms
For context Andrewsarchus, the often credited largest mammalian land predator, would be between 1,300-1,700 Kilograms. The Bear meanwhile is 160 Kilograms HEAVIER,Arctotherium meanwhile is 1,350-1,560 Kilograms, the Polar Bear is 300 Kilograms heavier. This giant Polar Bear is likely the largest mammalian predator to ever walk the Earth, shame people barely talk about it.
