Deep in the forests of the Yixian, there is a nest. And in that nest, there are 3 dinosaurs. One mother and two kids. The dinosaur is named Caudipteryx.
The Mom wakes with a start. It’s time to hunt food for the kids.
She wakes the two kids, as the mother Caudipteryx does not want the kids to be alone.
The three start into the woods.
Little do they know, they are being stalked.
The three Caudipteryx, after hunting enough bugs and lizards to satisfaction, start going back to the nest.
However, the trip back to the nest is long, and they are still being stalked by a predator.
Zhenyuanlong.
The Caudipteryx mom hears a branch crack.
She turns around.
The Zhenyuanlong makes its move, leaping off a log, and tackling one of the baby Caudipteryx.
When a mother’s kid is in danger, she naturally becomes very protective.
The mom bites the Zhenyuanlong hard on the leg.
The Zhenyuanlong yelps, and whirls around to face the mom.
The mom Caudipteryx hisses loudly.
The Zhenyuanlong backs away.
The mom spreads her tail feathers as an intimidation tactic.
The Zhenyuanlong charges forward and bites the mom’s neck.
The Mother Caudipteryx dies instantly to the bite.
The two kids cluster around their dead mother. It could be the end for them.
But the Zhenyuanlong sees the Mom Caudipteryx as the best prey and picks up her carcass.
The Zhenyuanlong runs off to eat the Caudipteryx.
The kids are alone.
Without their mother, the kids are pretty helpless. But life… uh… finds a way.
The kids manage to hunt down bugs to keep themselves fed, and adopt an old mammal burrow as their den.
Even without their mom, the two kids survive.
The kids go down to the river for a drink.
At the river, we see two Liaoceratops. One is a male, and the other is a female.
The male is attempting to impress the female Laioceratops, and he is doing a little mating dance.
The two are so engrossed in their dancing that they don’t notice the massive predator who is charging at them.
The two Caudipteryx screech loudly, and the two Liaoceratops snap to their senses.
The predator, a Yutyrannus, snatches up one of the Liaoceratops, the female, and breaks its neck quickly.
The Yutyrannus stomps off to eat.
The male Liaoceratops is without a mate, and the two Caudipteryx almost died.
The kids run back to the burrow, terrified.
Life is very tough in the Yixian, but sometimes creatures beat the odds. The caudipteryx have survived a Yutyrannus attack without their mom. But winter is coming, and with it, even more hardships.
