Anky did this last year and I'm stealing his idea. I love all Prehistoric animals, and these ones are just species with a special place in my heart. I'm just going by genus since I usually don't have a preference when it comes to individual species.
100: Horseshoeichthys
Peak name and from the Horseshoe Canyon formation
99: Boreiosturion
98: Basilemys
Only turtle known from the Horseshoe Canyon Formation
97: Edmontosaurus
Surprise, yeah it's from the Horseshoe Canyon formation so it gets to be up here.
96: Montanoceratops
Horseshoe Canyon formation, enough said
95: Diplomoceras
Finally, something that isn't from the Horseshoe Canyon formation, the funky shell shape makes this genus my favorite ammonite.
94: Apatoraptor
Okay, back to Horseshoe Canyon glazing, I like Oviraptorosaurs, and the Horseshoe Canyon has two.
93: Purgatorius
The fact that there were primates in the Hell Creek Formation is pretty cool, primates actually encountered non avian dinosaurs.
92: Leptoceratops
A really neat Ceratopsian that I like for some reason.
91: Hyneria
I probably wouldn't care for this thing if it wasn't for Walking with Monsters.
90: Ancylotherium
chalicotheres are pretty interesting animals, and Ancylotherium is one of the few species that survived into the Pleistocene.
89: Hypacrosaurus
Another Horseshoe Canyon creature to check off the list.
88: Pinacosaurus
Pinacosaurus was one of the first relatively obscure dinosaurs I learned about, since I got a toy of it when I was 4.
87: Tuojiangosaurus
Another species I remember from my Childhood, pretty much any species in that category has a special place in my heart.
86: Dromiceiomimus
Horseshoe Canyon species, I remember it once held the title for fastest non avian dinosaur, is this still accurate?
85: Mamenchisaurus
It's not because it has a weirdly long neck, I think it's interesting how long it lived for.
84: Anthracosaurus
I really like the Life on Our Planet design, one of the better animals in the show.
83: Parksosaurus
Thescelosaurids in general are cool, but Parksosaurus is from the Horseshoe Canyon so it's instantly my favorite.
82: Arrhinoceratops
Another species from my childhood + Horseshoe Canyon
81: Anchiceratops
See above
80: Saurolophus
Horseshoe Canyon Hadrosaur
79: Cretoxyrhina
A shark with direct fossil evidence of feeding upon Pterosaurs is pretty cool. This used to be my number 1 favorite prehistoric shark, but you'll soon see who stole that title.
78: Proceratosaurus
Another species I like for no known reason.
77: Deinotherium
The sheer size of this thing gives a sense of scale when in Paleoart, I really like Paleoart of this ancient Elephant.
76: Alaskan Troodon
Some things never change, never really cared for T. formosus, but I love the unnamed giant Alaskan species.
75: Gigantspinosaurus
Fun name, and the JWE2 Gigantspinosaurus is one of my favorite species in the game.
74: Ichthyornis
These sea birds just look really nice in drawings of the Western Interior Seaway, have to show some love to them.
73: Amargasaurus
Very bizarre Sauropod, and another great animal in JWE2.
72: Epichirostenotes
Here's the other Horseshoe Canyon Oviraptorosaur
71: Maip
Ah Maip, one of the most beloved Megaraptorians, and honestly have to agree with the fact that it's a cool species.
70: Beelzebufo
Big frog
69: Albertonykus
Horseshoe canyon's resident Alvarezsaurid.
68: Albertavenator
Horseshoe canyon's resident Troodontid
67: Concavenator
Very Bizarre species, and the fact that it had feathers goes to show that Carcharodontids were more diverse than once thought.
66: Archelon
Giant Turtle, what's not to like?
65: Nothosaurus
The closest thing in the Triassic to a seal, and seals are peak.
64: Titanis
Terror birds in general are cool, but THIS terror bird went into North America unlike it's lazy cousins who decided to stay in South America.
63: Nigersaurus
Vacuum cleaner mouth, hopefully I can get one to clean my floor.
62: Ornithomimus
I loved these goobers in Prehistoric Planet, and they're from the Horseshoe Canyon.
61: Didelphodon
I like this species mainly because of it's appearance in Walking With Dinosaurs, although I also like it because it's from the Horseshoe canyon. I sometimes refer to it as the "Marsupial Badger", although it wasn't a true Marsupial.
60: Sphaerotholus
Horseshoe Canyon, and because I could create a baseball team with the amount of species this genus has.
59: Denali Pterosaur
A few footprints in Denali prove that Pterosaurs once roamed Alaska, which is awesome.
58: Eotriceratops
Just another Horseshoe Canyon species.
57: Anodontosaurus
Easily one of the most iconic species from the Horseshoe Canyon.
56: Champsosaurus
Weird Crocodile-like thing that has no extant relatives, super underrated.
55: Leurospondylus
The only Marine reptile known from the Horseshoe Canyon.
54: Styginetta
Yeah, they weren't only primates in Hell Creek, but waterfowl as well. Hopefully the name "Styginetta" becomes official soon.
53: Rhamphorynchus
Small Pterosaurs, like Rhamphorynchus, are pretty underrated imo.
52: Struthiomimus
It was the first Ornithomimid I learned about, and is also my favorite member of said family, and it's also from the Horseshoe Canyon.
51: Eoraptor
Another childhood species, I remember being very shocked when I learned it was a "Prosauropod".
50: Homotherium
A saber-toothed cat that most likely lived in Alaska. Am I not biased towards Alaska?
49: Plateosaurus
These are 100% my favorite "Prosauropods", they just have such great roles in documentaries.
48: Elasmosaurus
Another species I like for no specific reason.
47: Megacerops
The word "Brontothere" is fun to say and the animal is pretty cool looking.
46: Arctodus
A bear the size of a bison that lived in Alaska, what's not to like?
45: Atrociraptor
Gave me lots of great content for my JP fan fiction; Duckhunt's Prehistoric Market, and it's from the Horseshoe Canyon.
44: Xenacanthus
My new favorite Prehistoric Shark, there's not a lot of freshwater sharks today, but back in the Paleozoic (and a bit of the Triassic), there was a whole order of them.
43: Parasaurolophus
Historically this has been my favorite Hadrosaur, and at one point, my favorite Dinosaur. It's not number 1 anymore, but still one of my favorites.
42: Tsintaosaurus
Goofy crest, although I miss those old depictions with a unicorn crest.
41: Dreadnoughtus
I just remember being fascinated with these sauropods when I first read about them some decades ago...
40: Meiolania
Unlike every other stem turtle, this species survived well into the rise of civilization, and possibly up until around 100 AD.
39: Hynerpeton
I really love Devonian amphibians (in the sense that an amphibian is any non amniotic tetrapod).
38: Stangerochampsa
The only Crocodilian from the Horseshoe Canyon, and because of it home, it's automatically my favorite crocodilian.
37: Arktocara
I'm very happy that the oldest known crown group toothed whale is from Alaska, although it's not the first since it's a species of river dolphin, or just dolphin since it was a fully marine species.
36: Pelagornis
Such a weird bird with an even weirder bird, and it went extinct fairly recently.
35: Majungasaurus
I mainly like this species due to the environment it inhabited, but it's horn is also neat.
34: Natovenator
The idea of swimming Dromaeosaurids is pretty awesome.
33: Mapusaurus
One of the few dinosaurs with evidence of pack hunting, and my favorite Carcharodontosaur
32: Thalassocnus
SEA SLOTH
31: Edmontonia
The only Alaskan Ankylosaur, and it's a great one. Also from the Horseshoe Canyon.
30: Alaskacephale
Same as above, Alaska
29: Cornwallius
Alaska + Name + Desmostylians (or desmos) are peak
28: Confuciusornis
The two tail feathers are really nice looking, making this one of my favorite prehistoric birds.
27: Hatzegopteryx
Is this the biggest pterosaur? I dunno, but nonetheless it's one of my favorites.
26: Therizinosaurus
The reason this one is up here is because one time I read in a book that it was a carnivore (which I knew was wrong), and it instantly became my favorite dinosaur at the time. End of story.
25: Pachyrhinosaurus
Alaska + Horseshoe Canyon Formation + P. perotorum has one of the coolest frills among Ceratopsians.
24: Dorudon
Arktocara used to be my favorite prehistoric cetacean, but now that title belongs to Dorudon. The dolphin-like whale is just so wonderful.
23: Brontosaurus
Is "Thunder Lizard" not an epic name? It's pretty strange that this species was beloved to be a fake for over 110 years before becoming valid again.
22: Albetosaurus
Final Horseshoe Canyon species on the list, gotta save the best for last.
21: Tylosaurus
Biggest of it's kind and from Alaska, plus those confirmed Orca colors make it look far cooler than it already was.
20: Jeholopterus
Cute little furball, curse David Peters for his awful depiction of them.
19: Australovenator
Polar species are automatically based, so a polar Megaraptorian is definitely going to be the best Megaraptorian.
18: Austroraptor
I made a post about why it's the best, I'll tag Austroraptor in this post so you can find it.
17: Lystrosaurus
The correct opinion is that it's peak.
16: Strepsodus
Rhizodonts that go from cute juveniles to 11 foot monsters.
15: Lambeosaurus
Here's what replaced Parasaurolophus
14: Dimetrodon
All the species are based, but my favorite species is definitely D. teutonis, a two foot long Dimetrodon species you could hold in your hands.
13: Pteranodon
Cool crest for a cool genus, my favorite of the two species is P. sternbergi.
12: Hesperornis
One of the more unique Mesozoic birds, and lived in Alaska.
11: Tyrannosaurus
I don't get why people think this dinosaur is overrated, it has well deserved fame due to being the perfect terrestrial predator.
10: Ichthyotitan
82 foot Ichthyosaur, instantly peak.
9: Deinocheirus
Big goofy duck
8: Psittacosaurus
I remember at the very beginning of the year, I read about the possibility that Psittacosaurus was built for an aquatic lifestyle, and then it instantly became my favorite Ceratopsian.
7: Nanuqsaurus
Alaskan Tyrannosaur, connect the dots.
6: Latenivenatrix
My new favorite Troodontid (yes, I can character arc)
5: Zuul
I'm a Ghostbusters fan so a dinosaur named after one of the monsters in the movies is bound to become one of my favorites.
4: Cimolodon
Adorable little squirrels and Alaskan.
3: Mammut (Mastodon)
Such majestic creatures, and one of the most iconic prehistoric animals.
2: Castorocauda
CUTE OTTER-LIKE THING, this thing is just so peak, it's 100% my favorite prehistoric mammal.
1: Spinosaurus
Yeah, the places above may change, but Spinosaurus will always be number 1.
Honorary mention of the Gastric-Brooding Frog, not Prehistoric so I can't add it.
Hope y'all liked this, it took me several hours to make.

Unenlagiinae is the dromaeosaurid subfamily that includes Austroraptor and maybe Pyroraptor
Afaik they’re dromaeosaurids but there’s a small chance that they’re their own family. So is this a subject of high debate, little debate, or do most scientists currently believe that they’re their own family .
Unenlagiinae is that subfamily of Dromaeosauridae that includes Austroraptor, they’re theorized to have hunted fish because they’re skulls are similar to Spinosaurids
I’ve heard it’s Austroraptor, Utahraptor, or Dakotaraptor. Is it one of these or something else?
