Unlike her Cenezoic counterparts, Aki is far larger and bulkier. Her head seems to be a mix between a bear and a wolf, she has bigger ears than the ones from the Cenezoic, and a short neck. She has muscular front legs with gauntlets strapped onto them, and sharp claws on all her legs. She also has a fairly long tail for a mammal. She is covered is spiky fur, especially her tail and face.
Colors:
The top of her body, her nose, and her claws are black, her eyes are a dark brown, her gauntlets are different shades of brown, the middle part of her body is grey, her underbelly is cream, her mouth is red, her teeth are colored in a bone color, and the inner part of her ear is peach.
Personality and History:
When Aki was just a baby, she was separated from her pack after being hunted in the rainstorm by a pack of Smilodons. The vicious cats ravaged her pack members and she had to resort to leaving them behind in order to survive. The alpha of the pack even went as far as buying her time to escape as he was swarmed by the big cats.
They ended their hunt since they thought they had enough meat and left Aki to wander off on her own. The young mammal was left with no family and was forced to seek shelter from the rain. By the time she found a suitable cave to rest in, she was shaking because of how wet she was. She slept immediately as she got in, not even caring if she was being followed. She was tired and all she needed was to recover.
Because she was so tired, she didn't notice that somebody else had walked into the cave she was in. Aki awoke to see a teenage girl in the cave. As soon as she saw this girl, she got into a defensive stance. But despite the Bear-Dog bearing her teeth, she was scared.
She had just survived a scuffle with one of the most powerful mammalian predators on the island. Being hunted by a human is almost as bad as being hunted by a Smilodon. She's seen what these people can do and she wasn't sure if she was ready to face this girl.
The girl however, didn't have any weapons with her. This was because she was kidnapped by a group of people who wanted to use her as a bargaining chip. She was actually the current princess of the Lunar Tribe, and she was taken by a group who pretended to be part of their kingdom. They planned to use her to convince her parents to give up the throne but she escaped and like Aki, she was trying to find a place to rest for the day.
The girl, Lusine, approached the Bear-Dog. The mammal tried to scare her but she did not back down. Because of how scared she was, Aki closed her eyes and hoped for the best. When she opened them again, Lusine was holding the Bear-Dog in her arms. She knew that Aki was scared and tried to comfort her. The girl was a nature lover so it was not much of a surprise that she wouldn't hurt the Amphicyon.
A day later, one of the men who kidnapped Lusine found the cave she and Aki were in. When they attempted to take her again, Aki mauled the first person who laid their hands on Lusine and promptly tore their hands to shreds. It wasn't long before the Lunar Tribe's royal guard found the princess and slaughtered her kidnappers. After that, Lusine took Aki back to her kingdom which was located in an underground cavern known as Shadow Hallow.
Her parents didn't think much of Aki and let Lusine keep her. As they grew up, despite Lusine being in line to be the queen, she wasn't scared to show a more childish personality when she was around Aki.
Aki is a lot more energetic then she looked. While her sharp teeth and bulky physique paint the picture of a perfect mammalian hunter, she was actually a lot more docile than some people believe. If she doesn't see you as a threat, she's as kind as a puppy.
As Aki grew older, she began to develop a disdain towards Smilodons because they're the reason she doesn't have a pack anymore. It's exactly why she despises the Flare Tribe's royal big cat, Saber. While they don't fight often, when they do they make sure to leave a mark whenever they clash.
Even though Aki is kind to anybody who's kind to her, she never liked Lusine's daughter, Yura. She ahs no problem with Lusine's son, Tsukasa or her husband, Kageshin, but she didn't like Yura for one specific reason: It seemed like she didn't like animals.
While she had a partner herself, Yura doesn't seem too interested in taking care of them since she's more interested in her royal duties. Even when Aki tries to bond with her, Yura just pushes her away but makes sure not to anger Aki because that's her mother's best friend. Although, deep down, she did care. It's just that she didn't like showing it too much because she was too busy with other things.
When the Fossil Riders allied themselves with the Flare Tribe, the Lunar Tribe launched an attack on Mount Phoenix. The reason why is because their prince, Lusine's son, was killed by the princess of the Lunar Tribe years ago. Aki and Saber had their final duel in that attack where Saber was far more aggressive than usual because his rider's life was at stake and every Lunar Tribe member wanted to kill her.
That was until it was revealed that Lusine's son was alive and that Yura framed the Flare Tribe's princess. After that, Yura was exciled from the Lunar Tribe and Aki growled at her as she left.
After the battle, the leaders of the tribes accepted that all of this was a mistake and they deicided to form an alliance after the princess of the Flare Tribe married the prince of the Lunar Tribe. This alliance would then be known as the Eclipse Tribe. During this time, Aki started to spend more time with Saber and as she did, their rivalry started to fade away.
As the creature who the Lunar Tribe's people worships, Aki respects Calistus the Giganotosaurus but keeps her distance due to how the dinosaur dwarfs her in terms of size.
Trivia:
• Aki's sound effects consists of barking and roaring. This was done to emphasize both the dog and bear aspects of this animal. She also howls like a wolf.
• Despite her species name translating to Eternal Canine, it's not clear if Amphicyon is directly related to modern dogs or not.
• Her gauntlets actually help increase the damage she causes when she attacks her enemies.
• Aki's fighting style involves bites, slaps, bashes, and pinning the opponent down and goring their necks.
• Originally, Aki was supposed to be a Dire Wolf. But because there aren't too many differences between Dire Wolves and modern canines (even though it's possible that the Dire Wolf itself isn't related to actual wolves.) I ended up scrapping that idea. But I didn't want to cut out Aki because I wanted a dog like creature to be Saber's rival so I chose the next best thing, a bear like animal with vaguely dog like features.
• Part of Aki's design was inspired by werewolves. With her messy fur and pointed ears, you can see where the inspiration came from.
• Even though it's not here, Aki is so big to the point that Lusine made a saddle so she could ride her Bear-Dog.
• Unlike Saber who feels the need to make himself look serious unless it's with his rider, Aki doesn't mind showing a more innocent side of her when she's in public. Even some of the guards play with her at times.
• In terms of mammalian predators, Amphicyon Eternacanin is the largest of them all, even bigger than Smilodon Gladiumorsus but they are both equally matched when it comes to strength.
• Hyenadon and Andrewsarchus were also considered for Aki's role. But due to me loving dogs so much, Amphicyon won me over with it's dog like appearance. Plus, we need more Amphicyon in the world, it barely gets featured in anything.
• Even though she's way older now, Lusine doesn't mind playing with Aki from time to time. Especially after she and her husband retired from being the king and queen.
• She was supposed to be a male named Maximus. This was a play on the name Max which is an extremely common name for dogs but since most of the animal cast was male, I decided to add a few more females into the mix.
• She and Saber are very much polar opposites, she's a dog like animal and he's a big cat, she's way more playful while Saber has more of a regal aura when it comes to his personality, and she has a more simpler name while Saber's name is supposed to sound epic and fierce.
• Lusine takes Aki everywhere she goes, mostly because when she used to leave her alone during a meeting Aki would always make a whining sound and it made Lusine feel bad. Which is why Aki follows her around everywhere they go.
• Aki prefers Tsukasa way more than Yura. Because unlike his sister, the prince isn't afraid to have some fun and he is way more social than she is.
• Ever since the alliance began, the Flare Tribe princess, Fla, began to bond a little with Aki seeing as this was the proud animal of her lover's family.
• Unlike her Cenezoic counterparts, Aki can actually fight back against some of the medium sized dinosaurs on the island due to her larger size. She's even stronger than the strongest of the smaller scale dinosaurs, Gojirasaurus Nanumdeus.
• Originally, she was supposed to have a large scar on her face that permanently damaged her left eye. But I cut it out for unknown reasons. It can be assumed that it was Saber who caused it.
• She has both dog and bear like behaviors such as wagging her tail when she's happy, and she can also rear up for a short period of time like a bear when she's fighting.
• Her favorite thing to eat consists of animals in the size range of the island's Enteledons. She does on occasion eat things that aren't meat, like berries, but she is more of a carnivore than an omnivore.
