I think early humans (erectus and neanderthals) were capable of making boats, and water craft.

They were just somewhat stronger humans. Also I don’t think the reconstructions of them are fully correct. Especially the modern ones. As we know we intermixed and I don’t think ancient humans would have done it with whatever those reconstructions r. But hey, whoever could make the Venus of Wilhelmina could maybe m.
