Meet Romulus and Remus, two wolf brothers. They were created by genetically modifying grey wolf DNA to be very similar to dire wolves. They are far larger, 80 lbs, and their just 6 months old. They will grow to 150 lbs in the future. They have stronger jaws, teeth and muscles. Their howls are also unique from other wolves. They also have their wild instincts intact and are naturally weary of humans.
I've seen some people be very disingenuous about this creation, but they are fairly close to real dire wolves. The reason they didn't use african jackals is cus their not big enough to be surrogate mothers. Also, I found a comment that basically debunked the whole "Jackal is closest relative idea". New genetic analysis has shown that the gray wolf is more similar. It's not a perfect 1:1 copy, but it's still very similar.
