Woolly sweep. Easily the most iconic prehistoric mammal, the face of the ice age, and it had a profound impact on the lives of many of our ancestors (assuming you have any ounce of eurasian/northern north american heritage, which most if not everyone here likely does).
”b-but, Columbian Mammoth! ‘Merica!!” Don’t care.
”well, the steppe mammoth was actually the largest of the members of genus Mammuthus-“ Didn’t ask.
”Aww the pygmy mammoth is so small and adorable!” I agree, but I still don’t care.
”well the woolly mammoths underwent so much incest that they died from genetic meltdo-“ maybe, but recent studies suggest that the population was relatively stable, implying that the genome meltdown was not what threw them over the edge. Besides, they outlived most other ice age megafauna, going extinct ~4,000 years ago.
Plus it’s in prehistoric kingdom lol
