This may seem like an oddly specific question, but I want to add it but adding it seems a bit controversial.
Basically I have this book called “Cruising the fossil coastline” and in it there’s a section about Alaska. In it, they show an Alaskan formation where a Shonisaurus fossil was found and they listed Hybodus as another animal that was discovered there. There’s one problem, the formation is from the Triassic.
Now, Hybodus did survive until the Cretaceous, but it’s pretty speculative to say it stayed in Alaska that long. Another thing is, Hybodus is currently a wastebasket taxon so a lot of fossils may end up being reassigned to other species, but until further notice, they’re still Hybodus.
So what are your thoughts, should I add it or no?
