The significant feature of abelisaurids is that they had elongated bodies, not like those of tetanurans. I've always been interested in parallel evolution, and abelisaurids are the good example of it. They lived for a long time in southwest Gondwana. During Jurassic, this land of Oz was probably separated from the rest of the world by a huge desert. I read about it, but I don't remember where :)

I agree, the abelisaurids had major amounts of potential to become the next apex predators of Gondwana after the extinction of carcharodontosaurids, they already featured key traits also seen in tyrannosaurs like powerful crushing jaws and short arms that could still be functional but were not used as much in comparison to longer well-built legs, they are definitely a very interesting clade.
