I have done a restoration of one of our human relatives so I thought why not again. This time it will not be of our ancestor but a sibling of our species,a neanderthal. The individual who I'm restoring comes from the shanidar cave.
Bear witness! A man who time has forgot!
This individual's name is Shanidar 1,or Nandi for short. Nandi lived a life of injuries. He was struck on the left side of his face causing blindness and partial or even complete hearing loss in his left ear. He also had injuries in the right leg. But the most outstanding injury is his right arm. In it there are significant fractures(which are healed) and severe withering. But what is worse is that right above the elbow the arm is cut off. It is theorized that it was amputation. The oldest known case of it. But what is most interesting is that Nandi lived to 50(well 40 to 50,his exact age isn't really known). In paleolithic times that's a lot. It is like someone living to become 70 in our time. But with all his injuries how did he survive? The only way is that he was taken care of. His family cared for him,and loved him. Even though he may have slowed them down they still cared. They fed him and cleaned him up. Maybe even helped him shit. For all we know he was someones grandfather. Maybe in the shanidar cave his grandchildren danced around a fire, singing, laughing and trying to make him happy after he grimaced from the pain all throughout his body. Maybe he helped his son find a wife and gave him the talk. Maybe he sat with his to reminisce on all his pains and struggles, and all the happy moments in his life. Things like that remind you that even though he was different compared to us,that he and his species were still Human.
