I think it could possibly break their tail if anything.

Monitors and iguanas can both use tails as whips just fine, as long as they aren't doing the sonic boom thing it seems perfectly logical.

Not to mention there are sauropods with tail weapons, why would those evolve if they weren't already using them for such a purpose?

I ask as I’ve heard some people say that it would break the tail, the sonic boom would be deafening, etc…

Certainly, as their tails were very flexible, but it wouldn't be anything crazy like breaking the sound barrier.

I just remembered I forgot to include Mamenchisaurus in my list. He is definitely top 5. I’ll go change that now

Besides Shunosaurus and others who were built to use their tails like that, I can't exactly be sure, especially with how fragile the tail ends of most sauropods would be

Well I used to have an iguana and he would whip me when I or my brothers agitate him too much and boy it hurts! so yes it is plausible for sauropods to give predators the iguana treatment
