The time portal flickered open, casting a red glow across the beach. Within a few seconds of opening, an explorer's jeep speeded through the apparition, stirring up sand as it went.
The jeep stopped and Nigel Marven climbed out. He surveyed the area and nodded. The crew was preparing for their incredible mission. Out in the bay, the sails of the Ancient Mariner were being hoisted. Crew members set up tents and cameras for a base camp on the beach.
"Ah, nice! Our first prehistoric animal!" Nigel walked over to a massive animal hauling itself along the beach. He crouched down and a cameraman turned his camera toward the wildlife presenter. "This can't be anything else - an Archelon. That's a type of giant turtle that was around in the Maastrichtian," Nigel explained, gesturing toward the animal. "This is truly amazing, our first animal and we've only been here for a few minutes. What are the odds?"
The Archelon snapped at Nigel's hand and moved on. Nigel laughed in amazement.
Leaving the turtle, Nigel beckoned over all the nearby crew members. "Alright, folks, we have to move fast. We're already behind schedule. Mike, how is the base camp coming?"
"It's almost ready," replied the crew member. "I'd say another couple hours."
Nigel and his crew were on a mission into the past to document Maastrichtian wildlife. The mission had been delayed, because someone had stolen the time portal, and it had taken several days to install the new one. But Nigel was confident he could get the mission back on its feet once they were ready.
"Alright," Nigel dismissed them. "Be ready to move out tomorrow morning."
"Look here," Nigel spoke as he unrolled a large map. A cameraman quickly pointed his camera at Nigel.
"Now, this is a map of North America in the Late Cretaceous. We're about here," Nigel pointed to a marker on the center of the United States, "right where Kansas will be one day. We've gotten our coordinates in perfectly. This is the shore of the Western Interior Seaway," Nigel announced, gesturing toward the rippling waters of the bay.
"Our plan is to get our base camp set up here, and we'll scour the surrounding land and water for giant reptiles. I don't know what we'll find, be it a Tyrannosaurus or a giant mosasaur. But this is sure to be a cracking adventure!"
What path will be chosen?A. A journey inland to search for dinosaurs.
B. A journey out into the seaway to search for marine reptiles.
C. Staying on the beach to study animals in the shallows.
Note from the past. I have changed my mind about how these adventures will go. All 3 adventures will have their paths featured at the same time. This is because it's possible they may cross.
