I think the diplodocids died from competition with large hadrosaurs that filled in a similar niche.

Yeah hadrosaurs were really making it big in the cretaceous, especially when the grinding teeth patch came out. So competing with that while being massive is understandable.

Sauropods with a lower range, like Diplodocus or Nigersaurus, likely would have a harder time if they were put against hadrosaurs with a similar range. So titanosaurs with such immense height could stay out of the way of hadrosaurs but also outcompete other sauropods

They just invested in size, losing the thumb spike and reducing their fingers to just a single finger bone

If given more time and pressure, I'm sure they could be even more efficient

They still didn't chew their food so size was the only thing going for em

Perhaps if given more time, they could have gotten that trait with the right pressure

I like to believe that a brachiosaurid or diplodocid survived on an island till the end. Unlikely, but possible.
