We've all seen the new Spinosaurus depiction redesign in the 2020s right?
Well... I hate it. Why? Because look at how it devolved from these two perfections
To this weak, low-life, piece of garbage that I didn't ask for or needed.
Even though it's animalistic and all, but it just... doesn't fit right with me and what my heart went for... what accuracy design did my heart go for?
The 1990s - 2010s design. Imo through all the dinosaur designs I found over the years, some were perfect, and others were not. The reason I liked the 1990s - 2010s depiction of the Spinosaurus wasn't just because of JP3, but mainly, firstly, and mostly because of Planet Dinosaur. The first time I've laid my eyes on their Spinosaurus design, it left a impact on me. And for a long time, I've kept this design as the most accurate depiction of the Spinosaurus, and loved it.
Now, on to the problems I have with the 2020s depiction.
Although the head is similar to the previous, it's just too soft (meaning cute in this case) to be a carnivore, which is why I prefer the 1990s depiction. It just needs to be a bit more intimidating.
The tail is one of my other big problems, I didn't like the fact that these people just added a fish tail to this once intimidating animal, and thought it was "cOoL". Well no, it doesn't fit on this creature at all imo.
The biggest problem I have with it, are the arms and legs, just look at them, they're too small and stubby. They make it look too quadrupedal, which also makes it look more like a herbivore than a carnivore except the claws. They also make it look too much like an aquatic animal and less like an equally both land and aquatic one imo. Therefore I think they should be removed and upgraded to what they once were.
The 1990s depiction on the other hand has:
A more perfected head I can understand.
A tail that fits the Spino imo, but kinda makes it a bit more like a land-based creature than equally-based one.
And most importantly of all, perfectly sized and designed arms and legs that don't make it look like a meat-eating herbivore swimming in a lake for all eternity.
(Note that I don't have a problem with Crocodiles or Alligators themselves, just the dinosaur, so don't bring those animals up; and also, i know i cant get Paleontologists to change their minds about the depictions.)
Now that the "discussion" or "rant" is over, I'm going to tell you all that I might work on a sketch/drawing of how I would depict the Spinosaurus with mostly 1990s pieces.
Ok, now please, don't start an argument here, keep it civil here. and bye.
