The wiki is absolutely fucked. The community is toxic, the staff harassed over what amounts to literally nothing. Tensions are running high. Mental health is being impacted. What happened yesterday wasn't down to just two rogue admins: it was all of us. And the only way things are going to change is if we tear it out by the roots, burn it to the ground. And from the ashes, maybe, just maybe, a community that's actually somewhat normal will arise. But to do that, we need to restructure. If we're going to survive, we're going to need to break it down into its constituent parts and work out a new administrative hierarchy.
So, what will this new regime look like? After all, while we've tried several tactics to get the wiki out of the state that it's in, none of them have worked. Courtesy of Baragon301, though, we've found a new solution; call it a last ditch effort to stop Dinopedia from going under, if you will. The solution is simple: a restructured staff team with very few members. One bureaucrat, one or two admins, two or three moderators. Like a hierarchical pyramid, if you will. According to Baragon, communities run primarily by moderators, with admins and bureaucrats that occasionally pop in to deal with issues, tend to be a lot more successful than the system we have now. As cancerous as it may be, Gojipedia is arguably better off than we are.
There are two advantages to this model: one, you'll have only the most trusted individuals in charge. You can't have an unwatched set of hands on the levers of power unless you can be sure that they're doing a good job, that they can be trusted, that they won't abuse that trust and the power it gives them. And two, if we ever do need a bureaucrat to step in, the community can help by directly reporting offenders. Power to the people, I suppose.
It's a bold, risky move, but it's the only one left to us.
So, what do you think? It'd be great to hear all your ideas for reforming the wiki staff.
